I would have posted this in the Tech reviews but as I am always playing this game I thought I would try here first.

Does anyone know how to fix the refresh rate issue with windows XP (the one where it wont go above 60MHz when playing D3D or Glide games). I have seen a number of freeware applications that can do this but what do you guys recommend?.

Cheers
Adam

What Patches? What the fuck are you on about? He's not talking about bf1942, he's talking about generally.

Adams, afaik all you can do is use one of those freeware apps to unlock the rate since that's what nvidia advise as they are too busy coding the option to show the nvidia logo when playing games.

wildie as mentioned on numerous websites it is not a graphics card issue or game issue, it is infact something Microsoft neglected to include in Windows XP. There is even a whole page dedicated to it on the Microsoft website. I know these applications will not include the missing Optimal Setting in windows so I really want the next best thing.

So again my question....
"I have seen a number of freeware applications that can do this but what do you guys recommend?."

Wanna find out what one is the best as peoples experiances with applications are more realistic than reading reviews or websites that offer them for download.

Cheers Scooba, lets just hope that Nvidia dont adopt the ATI approach to useful patches ;)

Well controlled.;)

I'd love to help, but I don't have one running. I'm lazy.

Edit:// and ATi I never had any problems with.:p

I'm rocking an ATI card so can't actually advise you to a specific unlocker personally, but I imagine that Powerstrip which is pretty handy generally should be able to do it

adams - the 40.72 BETA nvidia detonator drivers have options on the control panel to overwrite the refresh rates - its on the Direct3D tab. tbh I've not had a chance to try it.

As of the 1.1 bf1942 patch I can now select the refresh rate for each resolution in the bf1942 VIDEO setup menu - so that sorts bf1942 :)

freeware apps include RivaTuner, NVrefresh, nvrt10, pstrip, NVmax - the list goes on...

I use RivaTuner for o/clocking and have used nvrt10 in the past to fix refresh rates - both are "Alright!"

hope it helps.

The one I was sent and didn't install for my Nvidia card is "Refreshlock".

silly

silly scoob what patch he says erm 1.1 for bf is that a patch or not?
has it got a readme txt file in it to tell you how to get the refresh rate up above 60 for all res.

as for the nvidia drivers 30.82 are the best ones and xp certified.

40`s are betas and as for xp not surporting above 60 we all know this but the nvida drivers 30.82 have support.

powerstrip, nvidia refresh rate fix and rivatuner they the only ones u need to tweak the gfx
but as i said the rate capping was removed in the 30.82 drivers.
as for bf1942 its in the patch 1.1 read me how to get round the in game restriction, as it over rides your gfx card settings dont it.

duh :p

Try this.
  • Run DXDIAG from the Run command.
  • Go to the More Help tab.
  • Click the Override button.
  • Manually enter your favourite refresh rate in the Override Value field
No need for any crappy, bloated third-party utils. Now worship me as your lord and master.

Summo, I would, but the trick only works for D3D doesn't it, rather than OpenGL. So I still need a bloated third-party app.

If you tell me otherwise or fix the problem, I'll consider the worship thing.

I worship you oh great Summo god of D3D ;)

Wildie if you read my "whole" post you would notice this...
Does anyone know how to fix the refresh rate issue with windows XP (the one where it wont go above 60MHz when playing D3D or Glide games).
Notice it ask about GLIDE and D3D games, I only mentioned i play "this game" as I thought the battlefield 1942 community (which I am part of) would have the answer, and it seems the helpful ones proved me correct...

Cheers guys.
