My dad downloaded what appears to be the WGA update from windows, upon booting the machine it says "this may not be a genuine copy of windows, please use the validation tool to verify this".

Its not an official copy of windows but what im unsure of is this...

Will it just stop him downloading windows updates?

or

Will it alert the scumbags that he has a dodgy copy, thus recieving a fine?

I did a system restore previous to when he installed the WGA update but if he has set alarm bells ringing somewhere i dont think the system restore will do much lol

not to worry, it will download all updates. You only miss out on special _bonus_ stuff. Like: Windows Defender, Media Player 10.

I couldn't find it now, but there are a million ways to disable this.

well seems they already know since u got that msg ;)

i wouldnt worry, not even micro$oft can afford to take 100million+ ppl to court for bent windows installs :)

they more worried about buisnesses built around installing bent copies onto new pc's and ppl selling bent copies as genuine.

you can top it from being installed by automatic updates when it comes to installing click advanced then deselect it, then select never show this update....
same can be done on windows update site.

or just do a system restore to before the update and turn off automatic updates.
