OK, I know it's not always 100% good practice to pimp software around here, but you all know I'm a real person, so I'm going to do it anyway. It's non-commercial.
Having spent the evening playing with Firebird mouse gestures, I decided to have a google for mouse gestures more broadly in Windows, and lo, I found it here . It's not hugely intuitive, but seems very powerful - you can record just about any gesture you like to go on top of the directional and alpha-numeric gestures it comes provided with.
I don't use many, but forward/backward is very useful, as is "close window". It does appear though, that if it can be done on the keyboard, it can be mapped to a gesture - which is rather tasty
