Problem:

I have two computers, each running Windows 2000 Pro. I have 2 Lan cards, [Etherent GE2500III SE-2 10mb/s] and a big long cable 20m, I have installed cards and connected them together. Both cards are recogninsed in Windows 2000 and a LAN connection has been setup in 'Dial-up networking connection' folder. The only problem is I can't get the computers to communicate in 'My Network Places' it only shows the local computer in on both computers. I have set up file sharing on both comps, but can't seem to acces the other computers files or printers.

I need help desperately I've checked Microsoft site but no luck. Can anyone please help me set up file sharing and printer sharing properly?

noooooooo :( Sorry about that, I got sold a standard cable instead of a cross over, which means that it won't work :( I'm gonna get my ass over to the shop tomorrow and get a 20m X over cable.

I got the 20m standard cable for £6.50 any idea how much the X over cable will cost anyone?

And can you get a 15m/20m one?

They should be the same price - I paid £10 for a 5m one (gotted ripped off but needed it) - If U have a mate which a crimping tool + a plug U can modify the one U have got by swaping pins 1 with 3 and 2 with 6 and leaving the other wires as they are.

I would take it back and swap it for a X-over if I were U.

one end of a X-over:

other end:
