Hi :)

In sorting out some annoying network issues recently (on other pc in the network, but thought I'd apply the same settings to this one to avoid future problems), I uninstalled all network protocols, services and adapters, etc. I then rebooted and installed the network card again (netgear) and tcp/ip. Having done so, I've input the machines IP address (router is set to non-dhcp), subnet mask (same as router setting), gateway ip (my router ip) and my isp's 2 dns servers. The network card shows tcp/ip in the 'bindings' tab, which I assume means windows knows this card is using tcp/ip and should therefore use the ip/gateway/dns etc which is set under tcp/ip. The light comes up on the hub when the pc is on (which presumably means it detects a connected pc there), but the pc seems to be not connected somehow, as I cannot access the net nor ping the router or my own pc upstairs (which is all setup the same, albeit under winxp and connects fine). Have I made some common mistake here with configuring win98 that I've forgotten about since the last time I set it up? It was all fine before and I can't see anything different!! Guess I'm looking for ideas, please!

Im assuming you have Static ips?

If so make sure you havent set the computers IP to one of the used ones, IE Router IP broadcast ip etc etc

I had this problem with mine at first :D

Yeah I've not enabled the routers DHCP, so static ip's in use. Router is .1, im .2 and the other pc is .3. This is the setup I had before and it worked well. My pc and the router are fine with this setup and according to winipcfg on the win98 machine, it is using the .3 ip and knows the correct sub net mask and gateway ip.
