i have a PC that needs a boot disk of some sort because the HD is formatted

how do i go about starting this baby up and installing windows?

i.e. loading DOS and mscdex so i can run the setup on the WIN98 CD

At the moment it boots up and says 'invlaid startup disk or something, please insert yada yada...'

cheers lads

Well if you have access to another win98 computer then you can use the make startup disk under the add/remove section of control panel.

cheers emb

ive got Win98 on my pc at home

I thought that would make a bootup disk specifically for my PC though?

doesnt that matter?

In creating the startup disk it will provide you with generic CD drive DOS drivers, which work with most CD drives, enabling you to access the CD in your CD drive, once the startup disk has got you to dos. When it asks you, select 'With CD rom support' and if the drivers are compatible, it will allow you to access D\win98\setup.exe
If the generic drivers dont work (unlikely), your'll need to go get the dos drivers off the internet from your CD drives manufacterers site.
That's the only customisation that is normally done on startup disks, but in most cases, the generic drivers work fine.

Good luck!!

You can also try booting off the Win98 CD itself (assuming the mobo supports it)

This worked great for me when I had to completely rebuild my hard drives and is alot less hassle than creating Boot disks...

LOL shit. Every time I've needed a bootdisk I've made it manually (copying the files across, creating the config.sys with devicehigh's, etc). Totally forgot that W98 does it for you.

Can't see the wood for the trees (or something)
