Is it possible to create a bootable CD for Windows 2000?

I bit the bullet last night and started the reformat of my machine. When I put in the first bootable floppy, it came up with a "Disk I/O Error".

I thought it maybe just due to the fact that the floppies havent been used in donkeys, so I re-created the 4 bootable floppies - same thing happened.

Im not sure if its the floopy drive (had some problems with this before) but I can read information from the disks - just not boot from them.

Was wondering if i could create a bootable CD and do all from there.

Can't you just boot from CD? (Enter the Bios and set the first bootable device to your CD-ROM)

But yeah, you could make an unattended boot install disk... have a look at http://unattended.msfn.org/

:touch: thats what im asking - how to CREATE the BOOTUP CD for WIN2k

But I don't understand.........You just do what the Don said Laz, why do you need a boot-up cd? It should all go along with the Win2k install disc.

I apologise if I'm missing the point here.

You mean like this Laz?

Trem, the advantage being that you can integrate any service packs into the install disk, that way it all gets stuck on at once. I have one for XP SP1a, speeds up the install no-end.

:)

BTW Laz, Google is your friend.

it may perhaps be me still living in the pre-electronic age!

I have a Win2K disk, but I havent actually checked to see if my machine "boots from CD" (my bad)

However, looking at the CD directory structure :

CDROM_IA.5
CDROM_IP.5
CDROM_IS.5
CDROM_NT.5
ENGLISH
..WIN2000
....ADV_SERV
....SERVER
....PRO

If I run the setup from under the PRO directory it prompts to either :

reinstall windows (keeping previous settings)
create ANOTHER install of Windows 2000

I dont want either - I want to REFORMAT my HDD and add a CLEAN install of Win2k

Thing is Laz, if you set your machine, from the BIOS, to boot from CD as first boot device, leave the Win2k CD in the drive and reboot, it should start to auto install from the CD. Even after you have formatted the drive. (in fact, if its anything like XP (I have very little experience with W2K) it may even offer to format the drive for you).

Win 2k and XP ask you if you want to format the drive(using NTFS)*.

So there you go, I want an apology in the strongest terms from you young man(read as old man)

*If you select 'install a new version blah blah yadayahh'
