I am aware that there is a service pack type thing for Windows 95 - which aparently I'm not ment to install I unless I have the original version of Win95

which for me is:
4.00.950a

is this the version that can be upgraded?

4.00.950 is the Original version of winblows 95.

4.00.950a is the original version with the first service pack applied.

So it looks like the service pack has already been applied to your PC.

Ta, now - on the M$ website there is also a listing for IE4 Service pack 2 (Service pack 1 came form IE4 I think)

any ideas if I need this with IE5? (Which I now have)

Nope, if you've got IE5, you don't need any of the IE4 service packs. Seeing as you're re-installing anyway, it might be a good idea to get a copy of OSR2 or win98 though, as the original win95 doesn't work with AGP or any new stuff like that...

Win 95b works with AGP if u know what you are doing... I have got it workin fine without installing OSR2.1
