I've got 2 installs of q3,quite simple to do really. The easiest way is to copy your original Quake 3 1.17 folder and paste it somewhere else(doesn't have to be in Program Files)but change the folder name to Q3 1.27 or similar, then install the 1.27 patch into that folder and presto, you got 2 installs

lo there

just as jensen descibed, copy and paste in to an already named folder ie.Quake iii 1.27 ,does`nt even have to be a different drive ,but i would if u got the space else were!......then just right click q3.exe and send a short cut to ur desktop hay presto 2 instals 2 versions ,just one click away from running 1.17 or 1.27..ok?

WEDGE. :)

thanks 4 replying, does that mean all my mods 4 quake 3, that r in same folder still work as well ? and also can i run both installs through pingtool or gamespy as well. and the way u install q3 twice, is it the same procedure 4 any other games or programs, it seems to me that its a good ideal to copy original game before patching, just in case u mess it up is that correct.

Sorry. Didn't see this. I don't come to the Q3 forum much :)

Like the guys said copy the folder. Patch the new folder and create a shortcut. Gamespy will only point to 1 install though afaik so you'd have to go into it's options to point to the 1.27 install before double-clicking on the server if you saw it was a 1.27 server.

Mods will all be copied across with the folder to the new install but in the case of the 1.17 to 1.27 patch none of them will work because mod-compatibility was broken between these versions. Normally when you do this sort of copy-then-patch procedure though this will not be a problem and your mods will all be transferred fine.

Some games use the registry to contain certain information about the program and where it's files are kept on your hard drive. If a game works like that then this process may not work properly. You might have to create registry patching files. I've never bothered with this though as it's not been a problem on any of the games I'm that careful with. Certainly all Quake games and UT don't require anything more than a directory copy.

Hope that helps.

lo

ping tool and game spy r easy to sort out ......just decide which server u r going to connect to 1.17 or 1.27..then in ping tool go to file/game options and change the path to the oppreate folder (q3a.exe) be it 1.17 or 1.27 ok?....its the same with game spy just find the option that sets the path to ur q3a.exe and change it each time to the oppreate version agian be it 1.17 or 1.27 hope this helps!!!

WEDGE....p.s dont mean to sound patronizing but u seem new to this :)
