think they knnow your class better than you? for example im trying to cast blade turn on my self cos the 'tanks' couldnt keep aggro and they started shouting "STOP PUTTING DMG ADD ON YOUR SELF" and i said err its blade turn, aura of inceration is blade turn, "NOPE ITS DMG ADD - TYOUR GETTING AGGRO FROM IT". so i tell them why not look at a wizard spell list and find it "NO ITS FUCKING DMG ADD STOP CASTING IT ON YOUR SELF". so has anyone else had this kind of expierience?

I usually have to tell other people how to play since they dont know themselves :) But that sounds like a plain stupid stereotype tank.

i think its because of the respec, alot of wizrds have gone earth so they have the damage add spell, but its pretty easy to tell the difference... first the casting sound, and second (depending on level) is the flames that blow out from around your feet if its the earth spell. but yes, my wizard also gets stupid stuff like that said to him.

but then... i also get casters telling me how i should play my paladin

Some people blatantly needs instructions though :p People who keep running spirit chant in regular RvR, people who don't know what taunt styles are in PvE etc ;)

And I've played with a cleric who didn't know what heals are. Admittedly she was only lvl 5 and could hardly speak english.

Oh STFU FFS!!!

With people like you flaming those who offer help people will stop being so informative, and then how the fuck will I learn how to play the level 50 sorc I just bought?

;)

:flame:

Actually, I always like advice, even now, on how to play my infil. I'm getting better slowly and with practice but all hints are welcome as far as I am concerned :)

I suppose the big difference, Jup, is that some people offer advice on how to play a certain class, and this is always welcome as you can learn a lot from someone else's perspective. Some people tell you how to play, and if you are not playing the same way as they do, then you are wrong. The latter type, I have very little time for.

I too have had this, everyone seems to know how to play a low level minstrel better than the person playing it!

OK if I'm playing crap then fine.. but don't just tell me how to play because you had a level 6 mini once!

For that very reason I have left my mini in the BG to rot as I am getting far more pleasure out of my little Sorc:)

oh, dont get me wrong, advice is good, but when its just stupid i get annoyed.. like when someone has clearly never played a paladin... "Terilith, move back and heal please", ok, thats an old example, but wtf? or when a merc decides they want to be the main tank... whats the point in that? surely a plate wearer, who has heal chant, who is being Guarded, and has resonably parry (was 2h then, so also high damage output) would be best for the job... but if they argue enough ill give in... less chance of me dieing afterall

when i want advice on my char ill visit usually visit a site with class specific forums (mainly for chants, when i get more RvR action ill be needing to twist more than just heal, damage, and AF chant)

did you read the first post? giving advice has nothing to do with it, it was the fact he thought he knew better than me about what spell i was casting and that the spell lists where wrong

next time be a smartass and point out to him that dmg add only increases aggro if you're hitting stuff with your staff

i think he mean the earth damage shield, as thats the only spell a wizard has that looks anything like the wizard blade turn

If mob doing +s to plate and -vs to chain then the merc is gonna be a better tank I would think (if they both 2handed - and you can change who gets guarded). Oh and instead of running heal chant you can run shield and decrease the damage taken again, I dont think heal chant is effective as the shield chant in the long run, plus if you have to taunt to hold aggro you getting -vs to defence. Probably best to bounce aggro around.

Also if your group is spreading aggro around, takes less damage overall with bladeturn, and or, if you waiting for tanks to regen hp, then 2 tanks going from 1/2hp is faster than 1 tank going from 1/4hp left.

Healchant is an agro magnet, that's why you run it when you are main tank I believe. But apart from that, Mercs make quite good main fighters. Done it often enough. And it's hard not to become prime mob-target as a mercenary unless you de-taunt all the time.

hence why pointing it out would be to be a smartass :p

I'd have to say, when playing my caster I usually rely on non-tank classes to keep agro off me.

It's a sad truth, but a good number of tanks don't understand their role in PvE. Well, that can be said about all classes, but it's more common with tanks ;)

i agree, i will quote what one of the paladins said :

"why should i runn heal chant and get aggro, just so i die first?"

Indeed, as witnessed by some of the posters comments above. In a good group it is not the tanks that kill the mobs - it is the casters. So the lead tank is the tank which holds the mobs aggro most effectively.

For that job a heal chanting Paladin is probably the most effective tank in all three realms, although I am probably a little bit biased :) Would be very, very interested to see how far a Legion raid would go with a merc as lead tank... though I would -much- rather not be in that Legion raid, just watching as the debacle fell to pieces.

I love being main tank, much fun to be had as one and if you die, well everyone does eventually in this game.

I give advice and such to people who seem to be struggling with their char, but only the ones I know about or have played before. I wouldn't even begin to know how to tell a Sorc or Cabby wot to spec/kill etc.
