So, I read this just now (if its not new i'm sorry :p) I actually laughed as I read this (not because a poor man has died at the hands of a chav family) but because the chav family actually thought they could beat a man up with baseball bats and a sword then get away with it.

and I quote

"John Churchley was sentenced to a minimum of 18-and-a-half years for murder, Jason Hartrey a minimum of 17 years and Craig Hartrey a minimum of 18 years.

Liam Churchley, 20, who was found guilty of manslaughter, was handed an 11-year sentence.

All five defendants, who live in the Bedminster area of the city, cried and wept as the guilty verdicts were announced by the jury foreman."

Thats the part that made me laugh, "Cried and wept" what did they honestly think was going to happen? suspended sentences? a £50 fine? justice at its best that is, incase anyone cba to read it basicly it goes like this...

there was an arguement outside of a pub and the bloke who was murdered flashed his arse to a 50 year old woman during it (same 50 year old that has just been put away with her family)... so that 50 year old woman called 4 of her family to go and beat the guy up (in which he ended up dying 4 hours after the attack in a hospital, they attacked him with baseball bats and a sword)

the same thing happened here in denmark, with 3 familly members. A father and his two sons. They cut off someones head, and tried to get away with it. The weird thing is, that I've known them for about 13 years Oo
It was a tiny bit more serious, than someone showing his arse though :)

Shear stupidity the one I posted, I mean what 4 people could happily turn up somewhere and go "sure lets kill someone" they may aswell have just said "Lets get put away from 11-20 years and ruin our lives completely just because an old woman asked us to"

Why cant these ***** just walk to the police station and say "I think you best lock me up for 20+ years" so that no one has to get hurt!

I dont think they were crying because they thought it was a huge miscarrige of justice, probally more to do with reallity hitting home.

Bring back the death penalty. How people can kill someone and then serve x number of years to eventually be free is maddeningly unjust. An eye for an eye. Whole country is going to the dogs - literally.

I agree with Fuggz.
Bring back the death sentence for absolutely irrefutably proven murder.

There is no sense of fear in people's minds when it comes to criminal activity any more. What people need is a kick up the backside from society to tell them that if they kill someone (either in cold blood or in passion) then they will in turn be killed.

If anyone pipes up "But what about their Human Rights?", spare a though for their victim. They didn't care for that person's Human Rights because they killed them. My opinion is "Deprive someone of their life, expect to be deprived of yours".

If there is the SLIGHTEST doubt about the safeness of the conviction, then death should be commuted to full life tariff.

I personally liked the penalty for murder in Babylon5. If you killed someone, you had your memories and personality wiped then implanted with a new personality that wanted to help people for the rest of your days. More humane and doesn't waste resources on running a prison population.

I still think you should be made to work for everything in prison by default you get the absolute bare minimum you need to live (or eu law). Then you work to make money and buy your tv a new mattress ect with that money also better food.

I think the death Penalty should only be for Pre Meditated Murder and only then when a conviction does not need a witness. If it can be proved with DNA ect then fine but killing based on the word of someone else is iffy.

Godamn if I was in charge of this country it would be look out. The population count would drop by a good few mill in no time at all. You wouldn't be allowed to have a dog, bmw, tatoos, swear, and any teenager in groups of 2 or more would be shot on sight. I would probably shoot 90% of convicted criminals too never mind if they murdered someone.

GIVE ME POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT!

how can you cry and weep? Surely they're pretty much the same thing. Bawling your eyes out like a bitch. Well, prison will enlarge their jacksies, thats for sure.

Exactly they started to weep and cry as their sentence was read out, imagine if you're only 20 and you hear "18 years minimum term" you'd truely cry your eyes out guilty or not lol.

20 year old your life is just starting, these 4 mongaloids however its just ending.

I know this incident pretty well if it's the one i think it is in Bristol. One of my copper mates actually got involved in the aftermath (i'm not giving away his identity by saying this as about a dozen of them did!)

Fucking finally though - a decent sentance handed out to the scum. Now all we need is to have mandatory chemical castration for repeat offenders (say 3 strikes?) and automatic loss of custody rights for your children - with visiting them to be an offence i itself. That way we might stop these paddlers in the gene pool from spreading...

Lets see the evidence that the death penalty is an adequate deterrent for serious crimes and I might agree, but as far as I'm aware it doesn't work that way.

I guess we've had that discussion quite a few times in the past. Death penalty leads to nothing. It's a typical reaction to call for that, because cutting the weed leads to a more visible result than finding a way to fight the roots.

In the end, though, fighting the roots is the only way to get permanently rid of the problem.

I'm not saying "poor chavs, I'm sure they had a bad childhood etc.", but executing them sure wouldn't help either. But hey, as I said, this discussion is quite old =)
