It depended on the amount of money, for £50 or less I would pocket it. I'd probably report or try to find the owner for money up to £300, but I can't promise I would. I certainly feel that for anything more than that, that I would give it to the police and try and find the owner. After all, if no one reports it you can claim it after 3 months.

I think I would but I wouldn't have a problem accepting a reward.

Have to agree with Ch3t on the amount bit. Probably if it was like 5€ or some such petty cash and the person in the cab looked like they had more then said 5€, i'd keep it.

Thousands of dollars? Well, that would all depend on if TdC was working with me. He'd demand we hit brothels, strip clubs, liqour shops and return what's left

I have once returned a large amount of money that was left behind
and I'd do it again no matter the amount. ofcause large is a matter of definition,
in this case it was a wallet with roughly £1000 in cash. I turned it in to the police,
and called the owner "name and number in wallet" to tell him that I'd done so.
He said was there any money in it ? I said yeah a bunch of 1000 bills..
The sound of gasping silence followed by wierd sounds of disbelief, was funny to say the least..

On another occasion, I got 470dk back on a 50, turns out he thought I'd handed him a 500 note,
it was 3 or 4 am in the morning, I'd gone up for a pack of cigs. only realized it halfway home,
so turned around and went back.. he was one happy cleark as it would prob likely have ment him getting fired .

taking money from a lost wallet is just as bad as nicking a wallet out of someones pocket.
if you think otherwise, chances are your a Hypocrite!

I would do, and have done , it tbh I'd feel really shitty if I stole it because finders keepers or whatever it is stealing and I would think how I'd feel if someone handed in my stuff or not.

I was once in a gym changing room and chatting to a girl, having a real laugh and just drying my hair when I noticed my wallet wasn't there, I started to panic a bit and said about losing my wallet. The girl said there was one in the other section and looked a bit funny, I went in and it was mine I went back to drying my hair and said to her how relieved I was and thx for telling me.

While I was doing my shopping afterwards I went to pay and all my money had been taken out, the nice girl I was chatting with had bloody nicked it all, I felt sick.

I'd never want to make someone feel like that tbh.

I felt bad enough finding a tenner on the floor in Tesco Metro's.

But really, what a prick to leave all that behind in a taxi cab?
I know I'm waaaay too careful/worry too much, but surely thats one thing you really wouldnt want to lose sight of?

i found money at a festival once and kept it. rather i kept it than handing it in to lost property and them keeping it imo. was £40. Any other time i would have handed it in somewhere

Honestly, if I was a cabby, I'd hand it in to the nearest police station. Its the right thing to do, but I wouldn't go on a treck to hand it back to them.

When i was a kid i found a case with some bonds and a check for over £1 million in it. This was over 35 years ago so a huge amount of money. They all belonged to a very large oil company and they sent some peeps round to thank me and give me presents. Dunno if i got any cash as well if i did my mum probably got it. :)

i once lost my wallet with a decent amount of money in it, and when i got it back the money was gone ofc but i gave the guy who found it a reward, since it had been in a crowded place (he might not have been the one to take it) and since the reward+money in the wallet was less than what it would have taken to apply for new drivers license, id card, bank cards etc

During my exchange in Poland, i left my phone into taxi.

Next day my polish speaking friend called to the phone, taxi driver answered, and drove back to our dormitory. He was refusing to take any reward, but we "forced" him to take some 15-20e.

Talk about polish dishonesty..

I once smoked my way through 20 smokes, used up all the credit on a mobile and got high, all because I sat down in the right place on a train.
