It also depends on what you mean by War.


If you mean sales then PS2 obviously has a good start. But I think that in a few months time people will see that it really is underpowered compared to the GC and XB.

I tend to think that the quality of games and shelf life of the console so that it continues to be supported software wise are more important than sales figures.

The Dreamcast is a quality console. It just never got the shelf life thing sorted really.

I see GAMECUBE as the only machine capable of producing cutting edge games consistantly and having the lastability.


As with all arguments of this nature - time will tell.

you say the PS2 is underpowered, yet when the psx and n64 battle was underway, which side won? evidently the psx had atleast twice as many sales as the 64 and lasted longer even tho it came out before, power is nothing without control, as some people would say

The main reason the N64 went under is the use of Rom carts. These proved expensive to make and could not be discounted much.


GC uses small CD type things.




I have nothing against the PS2. It's just that given the choice out of the 3 on offer I think the GC will be the best overall. If you have already purchased a PS2 then good on you and may you have many good times on it.

Underpowered on paper yes. But how DID they get GT3 looking better than every Xbox game so far?

Quality of games and shelf life? Strike two to Sony. PS2 will outlast the other two. Fact.

Remember, Sony has already sold over 30 million PS2's. And as PS2 prices come down, sales go up. Ninty and MS dont have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Sony.

/me goes back to worshipping his Sony poster.

Because it spent much longer time in development because the PS2 is quite old now. The X-Box is still a sparkly n00b.

Yeh. Project Gotham Racing looks better than GT3 in some ways and worse in others but Polyphony are a great developer who had a lot of time to make GT3. Bizarre Creations had to meet the deadline of the Xbox launch. If you look at Metropolis Street Racer on the DC it looks great but they had less pressure to release that. Um, conclusion, the Xbox is still on 1st generation titles and can look as good as 2nd gen PS2 games. It's probably a little more powerful. Not enough to make a real difference but worth noting.

You also must remember that the sony marketing campaign was also a very decisive factor in getting pp aboard and Mircosoft have more money in one of there trouser pockets than sony have put together thus heavy marketing with the WWF for example and all kinds of other promotions will probably ensure a healthy user base for the xbox anyway.

Don't underestimate Sony's marketing power. They can probably do better than Microsoft with a tenth of the money. Remembering that Sony is by far a stronger brand name than Microsoft (name one thing Sony don't do well), I'd be far more scared of Sony than MS if I was Nintendo.

And with this "3rd place" rubbish there definatly not trying but it'll still be better than any crap m$ uses, just look @ the XP ads for example.

I think not.

Personally I'm buying an XBox (import no less), but then I'm not a mindless Microsoft basher, I know a good console then I see one. Jet Set Future, DOA3, SC2, all gonna 0wn :)

Not saying the PS2 and GC are inferior (although it is true that technically speaking, they are, the PS2 certainly is), I would be very surprised is XBox gains any kind of real market share in the UK until Xmas next year. I suspect XBox will get a warmer reception in the US.

XBox is going to suffer here from the mindless MS-bashers who still think that saying 'M$' is clever. Shame, cos it is a good console, with some excellent games on the way.

Xmas next year will be the killer, GC, XBox, and PS2 will all be on the european market and all have had their first price drop (at least). Best wait til then before anyone can say anything really :)

Tekken allways has and allways will be the daddy of beat 'em ups, so is GT the daddy of driving games, oh and Final Fantasy is the daddy of rpg's, this is becoming very one sided "folk's", and that left out MGS2, which is the daddy in general. The quality of TOP games is on sony's side, they have already won atleast half the war:)

Fighting game pe0ns. VF2 0wnz all other 3D beat-em-ups. Tekken 4 reports from experienced players are unenthusiastic. KoF 97 0wnz all.

Tekken is a fun game. It's not particularly balanced or technical.
