Right i am considering getting a console for Xmas.

I did have a PS2 since launch day but sold that on last year. So im really looking between the Xbrick and the Gamecube.

I am not a fan of pieces of hardware the size of a small televison but from the looks of it the harddrive/extras that you can get for the Xbox are very tempting.

Having played on my mates Gamecube i have to say i love it, but im worried about the games. I am a great fan of mario games and sonic but i feel that the cube lacks in other areas i like. FPS games and decent drive sims for example.
I wont have a huge deal of money which is also why the Cube is attractive as its quite a bit cheaper then the XBox and i want to get wavebird controllers and broadband adapters etc.

Anyway help please.

Ps. Can we keep this away from the Xbox had such and such a game while all cube games are for little kiddies.

X-box is much better, I've got both in my house and Gamecube doesn't have many good games. X-box has Shenmue 2 and Starwars Knights of the Old Republic, and Halo which is more fun than the PC version. :)

I didn't mean it like that, but x-box games are just better I think, + it's got DVD, and I've heard you can customize it to do pretty much anything with a bit of tinkering. Some people prefer GC but I just don't enjoy it. But its all up to personal preference of course. :)

P.S Shenmue 2 and Starwars Knights of the Old Repubic.

This post removed as deady asked nicely that people didn't do this on his thread. SO DON'T! (it's not funny).

Im going to be getting a gamecube soonish purely for mario kart, zelda, viewtiful joe and winning eleven (just a few off the top of my head). And packages are starting from 69.99 brand new for just the console up to £95 with mario kart or zelda.

The xbox on the other hand can be picked up for £139.99 with halo, Fifa Football 2004, Quantum Redshift and midtown madness 3 (im not sure if these games are good). Im also sure i saw game station matching this offer and adding true crime....(not 100% sure).

Hope this helps.

God that's such a "closed" way to look at it. The PS2 has the largest amount of content of any modern console, consequentially it has the highest number of good games. Another consequence is it has the highest number of decent PS2 only online games.

I'll start the ball rolling with just one excellent game:

Id say Xbox for longevity given the fact you dont want a PS2 and you are after racing games and FPS.

Then chip it :)

But if you want FPS then a PC is the only way to play.

This man is correct, the PS2 has such a wide lineup I find it impossible to believe you couldn't find more than "GT3 and football games" for it.

There's one thing I've learnt. And thats not to get an x-box. They are foul.

But then, I have a hatred of them, and would never have one even if someone gave one to me.

Stick with the PC.

Or get some beer.

Yes i also have a hatred for them but if i can justify it with DVD player and pretty dance games then i may well get a contribution towards it.

Saying that at this minute im leaning more towards the Gamecube.

Oh and please shut the fooke up about the Playshite 2 thx

I'd look at the upcoming release schedules if I were you. I've got all 3 as different games come out on different platforms which annoys me greatly. Sonic on the cube is the nads but not there on the others :( Mario Kart is going to own souls & the latest wrestlemania on the cube is a laugh (4 player style thinking here).

X-Box on the other hand has Halo 2 coming..... woo.

When you can pick region free DVD players up for like £40 using the X-Box as a player is silly. I only do it personally because my box absorbed all the space in my room where I could put a DVD player (had to for proximity to router :()

If you can't find those killer titles on the Box, get a cube & a cheap DVD player. It'll cost you less, take up less space and at the very least you can buy watch other region DVD's

Think about the games you want to play:

XBox - mainly western games. Mainstream. Solid games. Hardly any Jap content. Very little in the way of peripherals (not even a decent FF wheel FFS!).

PS2 - variety is the word along with lots of mediocrity. Safest bet. Has a good mixture of western stuff and Jap flair and imagination. Lots and lots of quirky peripherals. Shit loading times though.

GC - outstanding exclusive content. The good games on this machine just will not appear on any other console or the PC (unlike the XB or PS2 games).

The gamecube. i've always had the image of it being the type thing you have if you invite friends over and you spend the whole night playing mary party.

Xbox was quite funky when i played CM3 + mechwarrior 4

Not Force Feedback though is it? May vibrate but it's not the same.

Both PS2 and Cube have the Logitech FF wheels which are brilliant.
