If you could choose where your taxes go, where would you put it?

You could divvy it up to several places too.

I'll add a poll, but i'm bound to forget something and it won't have all choices, so it has to be "general" topics. Every topic chosen ofcourse means more pay, more free stuff, better services etc.

Stupid poll. For anyone with half a brain cell you'd tick most of the boxes. Its the proportions that matter, not the overall choices. Plus, what kind of taxation? I'd argue "public upkeep" is local taxation, whereas military is obviously central; in areas like education you can argue its either or both.

The point of it would be to see how widespread the money spending would be, no need to be anal about it :p

Everything. But in appropriate proportions and in as efficient a manner as possible :p

The problem with all the public services is that the spending and managing of them is so painfully inefficient if it's done publicly and painfully bad value for money if its done privately.

Of course I have no evidence to back up my grumpy prejudices :)

I'd elect a bunch of guys who know what they're doing and leave it to them and make sure I can vote them out every few years if I don't like what's going on.

Perhaps the question should've been "where would you prioritize your money" or some such :p

I'd like to see more investment in care homes & increasing allowances / benefits for the elderly & those suffering from dementia / alzheimers & their full-time carers. No old frail person should be shivering hungry in their home alone in the winter afraid to turn the heating on due to the cost. We owe them. I would also like to see our soldiers properly looked after in theatre & when back home, especially if injured & requiring long-term support. I would also like to see the crime of desecration of war memorials punishable by castration by rabid badger.

RE: Care homes - I'd certainly like to see a change to the way these are viewed, built and run. Unless you are lucky enough to be in a good one they can be very difficult places. I don't think care is something Private companies can be trusted with - inevitably inequality and low standards will arise.

The counter-argument is, these days people should know they need to invest in their future - and many do. Should everyone else pick up the pieces if they don't "bother"? (I know that is an oversimplification, but many just people don't, whilst others can't)

It's a stupid question. It needs to be spent on everything. Education and welfare(inc nhs) are probably the two you simply couldnt do without.

Apart from the "we owe them" bit - we don't owe them a thing - I'd still do this. 100%.

But this bit:

I would also like to see our soldiers realise the self-defeating futility of war and remove all funding so only astonishingly gun-happy morons decide to tool across the planet killing people for reasons that they can't possibly comprehend, in the knowledge that they're not going to be claiming long-term support on their return.

I would also like to see the desecration of war memorials rewarded by the removal of said monstrosities and their replacement with memorials to people who have helped mankind better itself, whether scientifically, medically, culturally or whatnot. Just no more murderer-praise please.

Better now it's fixed ;)

If the "big one" starts then we're all going to die of radiation sickness.

I, personally, will be attempting to spear as many women as I can find :)

As for the question its self;

If I was Grand Supreme King of England and those other nations that wanna tag along I would firstly say to NI, Wales, and Scotland, do you wanna be our friend? - If not, Fuck off, if so, firstly, we're not paying for your Prescriptions anymore, you're going to pay the same rate for Uni as us, and you're all paying for your parking at hospitals, you'll be directed from Westminster, and not have your own silly little MPs, in return, you'll be a part of England, and you'll contribute to our economy, and London will still carry you.

Then I would leave the EU, and tell them frankly, it's not as if you're gonna stop trading with us anyway, noobs.

I'll stop the bum-fun relationship with America, definitely, stop following them to silly wars, and offer ourselves to Russia instead, telling them they need to stop supporting dictators, and we don't give a shit how much money you're getting off them, we want world peace dudes.

I'll black-mail the world telling them I've got a nuclear weapon aimed at the core of the earth, and if anyone is naughty, I'll fire it.

I'll remove the ridiculous layers of bureaucracy and middle management in councils.

I will then embark on a mission to rebuild the British Transport System, thus people gaining jobs and greatly improving the rate of trade in the UK, much like Hitler and the Autobahn.

I will build up the tourist industries around British Legends such as Robin Hood, and build a theme park that will rival Disney in Orlando.

I will cut the British Army down by around 75% but also introduce National Service for everyone between the ages of 16 and 21, unless you're going to do something that's vital within this period, not for military purposes, but to make fat people less fat, thus making the stress on the NHS less.

I will build a new British Navy that will be twice the size of the USAs, mainly as a deterrent against invaders, and also to bombard the holiday homes/businesses of those who dodge my new 90% tax rate for those who earn over £1mill, which should cover the cost of the new fleet which will be made with recycled Coca Cola cans, and will be sponsored by Red Bull.

Peace.

As for what Scouse was saying;

No, I completely disagree, yes, soldiers today, perhaps, should not get the respect that World War veterans received, because they did it to defend their home, but you can't blame the soldiers of today because they're in places they shouldn't be - I know a few lads I went school with are 18/9, and soon off to do their tours in Afghan, I know for a fact, if they didn't, they'd either be criminals, or living off benefits, they're doing something with their life, at least, they used to be racists, now they're a little less racist, you go over there with a racist mind - you meet the locals, and that quickly changes, well, that's what I've heard anyway.

The fact that we send soldiers into a war which the public does not support, and get shit when they get home, and the people that send them there give them shit quality of care is absolutely disgusting, you hear these soldiers come back, and they're honourably discharged because of mental health issues, because they've been to a war-zone, and then they're pretty much screwed, although it's a minority it happens to, it should be sorted.

Scrap the tuition fees
Tighten up benefit regulations.
Don't make life hard for people who actually WANT to get off benefits, and encourage people to get off them.
Stop blindly following America into war.
Encourage foreign investment.
Encourage small business more.
Put pressure on failing local councils to improve their spending and performance or just replace them outright.

And for the love of all that's holy, DON'T place council estates in the middle of fucking nowhere with no decent transport links to city or town centres, once your in one of those places there is a good chance your fucked.

Oh yes and if someone wants to get a student loan at 18 years old, but their parents earn too much but won't or can't pay for fees, let them have it anyway eh? Don't make the poor buggers wait until they are 25. I mean for gods sake its in their name anyway!

Schools. 61.9%
Public upkeep services 52.4%
Healthcare.52.4%
Roads. 47.6%

Public transport.38.1%
Law enforcement. 38.1%
Military. 38.1%

Social services. 28.6%
Other 28.6%
Government running spenditure 19.0%

Education, clean streets and healthy folk as primary, transportation and protection secondary and less f*ck given about extra spending.
