Where does the internet go in the evenings?

The last 2 nights I lost the internet. I called my friend and he couldn't find it either (different ISP). It's there in the day though. I think it's mum is sending it to bed early for being naughty.

Anyone else struggling to find web pages (at all) on week evenings?

I'm talking about any access to sites in the evening - I can only imagine it's so busy that the net is grinding to a halt. BTW my messages here are posted in the day.

It's like that with the Net. Especially evenings and weekends when peeps come back from work/school and start trawling the WWW for whatever. Busy periods are from 7pm GMT rising to a peak at 10pm. Why 10pm? Coz that's when the kids/parents have gone to sleep and little Johnny decides is a good time to look for naked pictures of Brittany Spears.

Oh, and the Yanks are home from work aroud that time too.

Best time to surf or play I find is on a Saturday/Sunday morning before midday.

Ono, you could be right - it's been getting worse and worse each passing week most likely because more and more people are getting online.

I checked again last night and what seems to be happening is that after about 20000 bytes received it stops and won't recieve any more. The funny thing is that I then played counter-strike online so I can receive/transmit data alright. Maybe it's the web browser (ntl).

Anyone with any idea what the problem could be or if you have a similar problem please reply.

Jonny, I had exactly the same problem yesterday. must be something to do with DNS (because you access CS servers using the IP). Needed to connect 5 times (mixture of BTi, BW and Globalnet) before I could read a website

I had the same problem last night on BT Internet, Vodafone, Dialnet and ntl World. Must have been a general problem.

As a whole BTi and ntl World are very good. I just want my ntl digital tv and cable modem access.

Thanks Stu and Mikey, I was beginning to wonder if it was a problem with my own setup.

I wonder if it's because the Government started piping the ISP's through MI5 this week (Blair is such a twat).

Perhaps we should all write IRA LIBYA and BOMB at the top of all our e-mails just to piss them off.

net congestion over here in holland is starting to get pretty bad too. personally i no longer use the net between mmm say 1800 and 2200 cos the performance is disgusting.
another sad thing is that my pipe to BW goes thru a _seriously_ underspec'ed router somewhere that jumps my ping from 25 to over 700ms
funny thing is, [embattle and me found this out] it's only ONE WAY cos he could ping me wiv 100ms whereas I gave up tryin.

A dutch guy in our clan has the same prob. We all get 40 ish with isdn and cable in the uk, but he gets 400 on bw when hes getting 30 everywhere else. Weird. We were gonna put ourselves down for a BW clan server, but with one of our players getting 400 it wouldn't be much use
BTi works a treat for me all the time tho I must say. Pinging at 50 ish is nice for free and seems to be performing better than 0845 in the evenings.
