Yeah it wouldnt hurt with a GM giving us an estimate since we have been waiting for quite some time even before the beta with nothing close to a eta.

Two points... we aren't going to give an ETA because we don't have all the test facts in to give one.. the testing guys are compiling info fixing bugs etc etc and we are letting them get on with their jobs as opposed to hovering over them...

Point two Excal was down this morning for the same reason that Pryd was down yesterday afternoon and that was maintenance. I was on the website that Excal would be coming down at 10:30 this morning.

[26-10-2004] Following the server upgrades

On Wednesday the 27th we will complete the server upgrades that will prepare them to handle the changes brought by New Frontiers.

The server shutdowns planned are as follows :

Wednesday morning at 10.30 am CET
Excalibur and Orcanie (restarts planned for early afternoon)

Wednesday afternoon at 15.00 pm CET
Logres and Carnac (restarts planned for late afternoon)


There will be a few more things to do before the release of New Frontiers since the network also has to be upgraded and there are still a few bugs to fix.

SO true, big companys do not give eta's nor do they say when upgrades/work is being done by... this is due to them not wanting to get bad press for not delivering on time (any Project Manager can back me up on that.) You'll also notice that when they say the servers are coming down, they usually do not put a time they are likely to be down for... which is for the same reason as not annoucing release dates...

Just think though, with all this spare time you can play say... Planetside/City of Heroes/WoW/EQ2 and when people realise how sucky DAOC is (NF lag/LD's/overpowered casters/underpowered tanks)... you have something to fall back on

If your so desperate, go play gorre and wait for the friday news.
My guess would be sometime in November, but bumping a thread is just pointless when a GM's already explained they arn't going to give an eta.

I have never said they arent doing their job. I do think that it would be nice tho with any kind of indication on when it will be out. His response sort of gives the impression they have no clue what each department is doing at GOA.

I think its a great expansion but I have no interest in putting time into a "rog" character that will be deleted. Friday news rarely hold important and current information...it happens more often these days yes but still its too much info on fluff like stories and previews of expansions months away - lets hops the new diffrent official sites might fix that.

Well last post from me on the subject.

One would expect that alot of bugtesting of NF was done with the 1.70 in the US and they found lots of bugs there due to the 1.70a, 1.70b and so on...

Still, work on this from GOA was started around the end of july, beginning of august according to old friday news and 6/8 they said;

Once the US version is stabilized, as it is still being patched on a regular basis, we will be able to plan and inform you of a release date, still scheduled for this fall.

The 10/9 friday news told us about the internal testing that occured and yet after almost 3 months from they getting the files we dont even get an "Late November".

If you check the latest fridays news they talk about the "Super Classic" client needed for DAoC classic users and that it will be available for download from sometime this week giving us plenty of time to aquire it, that probably means they wont get NF out anytime soon since they say they still are looking for bugs. Looking for bugs is a good thing sure but its been tested in the US, its been more or less in GOA's hands for 3 months, they have almost had a 3 week public beta test as well as some closed test from what I can find out and they still cant give us an estimate?!

Well thats the problem in my opinion...they talk about it so far in advance that you get bored of waiting.

I like the game alot and wouldnt move US to start over...I just find GOA the company gotta improve even more despite the great efforts made by the GM's recently.

There's a couple of things to consider. First of all, of course, they have three clients to debug and test. The second thing is that Goa code must, by now, deviate somewhat from the Mythic codebase - although a lot of the work done by Goa is translation, there's also various patches and hotfixes applied which won't be part of the main code tree (zzziiiipppp - Secret stuff!). This means that you have to merge code changes from 1.70 in with these patches, which is always a tricky job.

So when will it be released? "When it's ready". And I'm prepared to be patient if that means I won't have weeks worth of a buggy client.

The server setup as I understand it, it quite different to the US, and somehow there are often bugs that we get here, that the US people have never seen. Some of the bugs were mentioned in the news about gorre. From what I gather, the bug curently on gorre where people appear asthough you have them selected wasn't seen on the US. This i imagine, makes it hard for the US people to fix.
As has already been said, there are some differences between the two sets of code and these can and frequently do result in bugs occuring.

Partially because it is the fixed patch, not the patch pre-fixes.

Partially, I believe, because the text is directly in the code, rather than referring to a message database in which translations can be added. As a result, translation involves code changes, rather than simply database additions.

As to why it's written that way ? I'm not sure, but I've found it not unusual in US developed products (the same way customs and currency issues often aren't dealt with - they only have one set in the country)

I wish ppl would stop comparing Gorre with anything else. Its never been 100% complete by patch launch day, as many fixes are done to the code away form the game.


Yes GOA have had the code for a while, but many problems inherant with the patching can not be fixed by GOA, only by Mythic. So GOA send a Rightnow (hehe) to Mythic, Mythic look at it and eventually send it back to GOA. Then GOA test some more, rinse and repeat.

Yes we are behind the US, but at least we dont suffer weeks of 1 hour shutdowns for the odd fix, or bugs that make things a little weird.
