Well, if killed with the help of a pet, a red will give more (pet stealing exp, etc).... and it's mostly pet classes that will be able to take high orange-reds comfortably.
Necros dont get any more xp from a red than an orange. Although they are a pet class the pet does not take xp.
That doesnt mean being able to solo reds is pointless. Sure it takes a little longer than an orange usually, but being able to clear wandering aggro reds out of the way is very very useful.
