I know that some of the members of this forum have owned and driven some fantastic cars over the years, so I am wondering how exactly your history has progressed. And I don't just want to know the nice ones either, tell us the automotive skeletons in your closet too :)

The fist car I had use of, after passing my test was my mum's Morris Minor Traveller (the one with the wood on). Drove like a bus, but good fun.

2nd, Again my mum's Fiat 127. Lime green, the least said the better.

3rd, my first owned, Vauxhall Astra 1.6 mkI. Pretty good drive tbh, at least at that age.

4th Peugeot 405GTX the 1.9i engine from the 205 GTi. Went pretty well and was comfy but the boot leaked.

5th Nissan 200SX MkI. Best car I ever owned, and the fastest. Cheap to insure and maintain. Boring interior but fantastic apart from that.

6th really shite Audi 80. bad mistake :(

7th Honda Civic CRX. Small, nippy, suited me at the time, but nothing special.

8th and current VW Golf VR6, could do with the power from the corado VR6 and better, stiffer, ride. That said it suits me at the moment, and is quite fun the drive.

So what about you? Please list any car that you have had regular access too, company cars etc, but not just test drives. Please feel free to include bikes as well.

my motor history is quite messed up

I passed my test in '98 and straight away started driving my dad's Hyundai Accent, it was the 1.3 pony engine so it was like a tank pulling away from junctions :(

very quickly jumped into the abyss of cars and got myself a Saxo 1.0 spree in '99 (just to get the 3 years free insurance deal) for 3 years, suffered engine problems towards the end of its life, so part-exchanged it.

next up was a Renault Clio 1.5dci (65) which was fun to drive for the first 6 months, then electronic problems and engine management issues lead to its early demise after 2 years of ownership, handed the keys back to the finance company and told them to get rid of it, glad i did :)

between the clio, and my current "car" I ended up swiping my dad's Peugeot 206 LX 1.4 when i needed it, going from diesel to petrol was a nightmare

I currently run a Peugeot Partner Combi Quiksilver 2.0HDI, went into local peugeot dealer to get a new 206SW and discovered there was a deal going on it, so i bought it instead! :eek6:

Partner_Combi_2.0_HDi_90_Quiksilver_5_Door.jpg

so now i drive a "van" with windows

I'm not gonna put any dates in :D

1. Mum's Metro 1.3
2. Mini 1000
3. Mini 1100 with piper 285 magnum camshaft, lightened crank and pistons, cooper cyllinder head, MG metro inlet manifold, HS6 carb, Ram air intake, cooper 3 into 1 exhaust - shit off a shovel for a mini ;)
4. Long bleak spell with no wheels except Dad's toyota (yuck).
5. Mondeo (hated it except heated front screen)
6. Vectra 2.0 SRi - done 140,000 miles now from new and still runs well - to and from station hauler in pretty poor nick, might gut it one day and race it somewhere.
7. BMW 323i Touring - 2.5 litre BMW masterpiece - drives like a dream and is really kind to you on long hauls with plenty of grunt to chew up miles on motorways. Wouldn't want to try slinging it through corners, I'll wait til I get properly into my mid-life crisis and get ... well.... maybe a TVR, eh Tom? :p

Okay.

1. Fiesta G reg, 1.8 diesel. Had this for a few days before returning it to seller because it was shit and totally fucked.
2. Fiesta H reg, 1.0. Had this for a while until some **** wrote it off on a roundabout and gave me injuries. Insurance payout gave me a nice sum of money.
3. Fiesta K reg, 1.1. Had this for a while. After a couple of years it was degrading so quickly and so fast it wasn't worth trying to sell. Off to scrapyard it went.
4. Corolla N reg 1.4 16v. Absolute bargain of a car. Had only done 27500 miles with one very careful old lady driver, who was the wife of my dad's colleague. Absolutely mint condition, still had (and partially has) that new car smell. It may be a few years old but it's still done less than 40k and is utterly perfect. Had it a year now, just wet through it's MOT needing nothing but tyres. Absolutely love it, so easy and relaxing to drive, and surprisingly quick in 1/2/3. Top speed is a bit naff, but let's be fair there's no need to be doing 120 on our motorway road surfaces.

1 - 1998 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting - Great little first car, was like a go kart with 4 seats. Made a glorious noise when you thrashed the knackers off it too, and it really wasn't that slow at all.

2 - 1997 VW Golf GTI 8v - My first proper car, nice solid motor. Wasn't the fastest thing on earth but it handled well and was amusing to fling down a country road as fast as it would go. Sadly I wrote it off, but I enjoyed the car so much I bought...

3 - 1996 VW Golf GTI 16v - my current motor, very fast, goes round corners well and is deeply comfortable. Stereo kicks ass as well (1400W sub in the boot yes yes yes), in fact, the entire rear end of the car now rattles a lot more than when i put the sub in.....

All were red, cos we all know red cars go faster.

2.) Parents Y reg Ford Ka (fun little car to drive, surprisingly poor on fuel consumption)

1. Fiesta Popular Plus Diesel - it sounded like a tractor and had trouble going up hills :/

2. Rover 214GSI (the rebadged Honda version)- I went through an old man phase for some reason but it was actually an alright car, infinitely better than the Ford Tractor that was previous.

3. Mitsibushi FTO GPX - finally got a fun car to drive and promptly left the country :(

Both :) - 40 this year. Fuck. Lots of those cars are company cars (most of the ones between the first Rover and the BMW).

1. Hyundai Pony Pickup. Wrapped round a tree.
2. Mini. Many many mods, see Jupitus's list, add suspension mods, harnesses, buckets, super sticky tyres and some brake mods too. Learnt a huge amount about cars and am continually amazed by how I never crashed it.
3. Triumph Spitfire. Bought cheap and restored whilst owning the mini, horrible evil handling pig.
4. Triumph GT6. Bought cheap and restored whilst owning the mini, horrible evil handling pig with large engine and nice styling.
5. Fiesta XR2. Lots of fun, If they didn't all rust to pieces in seconds I'd be tempted to have another for winter runaboutness now.
6. Escort RS Turbo. Chipped to 200bhp, with accompanying engine, suspension and brake mods.
7. Escort 1.8Zetec. First sensible car I had.
8. Citroen Xsara Diesel. Bought from my company dirt cheap and run for a year whilst saving for...
9. Lotus Elise. Dream car for me, being a Norfolk lad and into cars. It's really the best drive I'm going to get until we get into Ferrari money, (in my opinion, lets not get into that debate here again :p ).

In the future - S2 Exige, or if circumstances allow maybe a Ferrari 355. You can probably see that from my list, cars are a little more to me than just transport. As far as modifying the cars goes, if it doesn't make it go quicker, stop better, or go round corners faster then it's not going on. No chavved up bodywork or dump valves here for me.

Most of those cars have overlapped for a bit too, for instance the RS is still in the drive here, I should really get round to flogging it, or just take it round the track for one last run and see if I can blow it up at the end of the Revett straight at Snet :D
