Whats the correct terminology...

For those power leads commonly used by laptop adaptors, rather than the normal 'kettle' connector at the end, have three circles?

Its called a c5 power cable I believe, clover leaf or something like that.

Yea found it, c5 is the standard, theres some stupid names like clover and mickey mouse too...

It is called that sometimes due to the way it looks at the other end from the plug.
