Including the stuff that I've ripped from my CDs, I estimate I have

at £10 a cd - approx £500 of music
at £15 a cd - approx £750 of music

I think I'm quite conservative as well, I reckon there are people with thousand's worth.

I worked it out awhile ago, added every album I've downloaded to my Amazon basket and it came to about £1200.

£10 each = £600
£15 each = £900

Most of that came from allofmp3.com (Which is apparently completely legal. I think)

I dread to think.

However, a lot of my MP3 collection consists of albums I've bought and encoded for convenience value.

I have:

In excess of 400 slabs of glorious vinyl,
In excess of 350 CDs,
And about 40Gb of MP3 files - Some encodings of the above CDs, some naughty and wrong.

If I calculated a monetary value to all of this, I would probably have some kind of hernia. Although I am probably a bit older than some of the people on here so have had more time to fuel my obsession.

What a cruel and heartless question

The more I think about it, the more worried I get.

Can I take this opportunity to get all pious and say:

"If you like it, go and buy it"

???

Bands need food too. Or, in the case of The Libertines, hardcore drugs.

At £10 - £3700
At £15 - £5550

And if I downloaded the same amount of tracks from iTunes: £5453

The terrifying thing is if I start to do the same calculation on DVDs, videos, books, games and comic books, I've probably spent a Ferrari's worth, easy :(

Well I own about 500 CDs and maybe 100 LPs and 50 cassettes. I've probably only got 150 on my PC, 100 of which are already owned by me.

You work it out !

You would normally pay £10 per song? :eek7: No wonder you steal.

Hmm, I have 948 songs on my iPod, countless albums on my HD/D that I haven't bothered to d/l to my precious as well as a several dozen CDs that I have burnt. Can't be bothered to tally it all up but I would say, judging from the iPod's contents, that I have ripped the record companies off for roughly £1500. Nice. :) The actual figure would be a lot greater than that though. IN YOUR FACE, THE MAN!! \o/

1040 mp3s, virtually all of which (98%) are from my own collection of CDs.

About £1000 then, not that much.

Only a few naughties in my collection. Normally I either end up buying it, or I buy it then rip it to the hdd.

We have 500 cds (bought) so that would be £5000 at 10 quid and £7500 at 15 quid.

*amends house insurance*

not all are ripped though I tend to rip them onto my pc to put them on my mp3 player then delete them off my pc :)

But when it's a thousand quid you've actually spent, that's pretty depressing :/

I don't really download stuff, partly because most of what i listen to is by small bands who need the support. I'd guess realistically, my cd collection is about £1200 worth - Not a nice thought as that's a grand that i could use to get my motorbike. Don't listen to half of it either :(

Well that's over about 10 years I've built said collection, so not too bad. :)
