I have Broadband at the moment, which pings quite nicely, but I will moving in with my girlfriend in a month to a house in the country where broadband is not available. My girlfriend is very understanding and does not mind loosing me for a few hours each day to my PC, so I'm going to have to get ISDN.
But what's it like for Planetside? What sort of pings do you get? should I get my money back from Game while I still can?

Should be playable :)

Game won't give you your moneyback either - it's a subscription online game.

Why the hell not? Just because you have to pay to play on Sony's servers? I doubt that very much, I will find out tomorrow mind.

Because you've registered the game and ergo its CD key can't be used with a different Station account.

You might have a chance at getting your money back if you get served by someone who doesn't know the difference - but if you look at the disclaimer on the 10 day moneyback - it says PC online games are exempt from this.

Makes sense really. You get your free month, take it back, it goes back on sale, poor bugger buys your old copy, tries to register it, gets told CD key in use, person is shafted.

Actually I believe it isn't covered by the part where you can return it just because you didn't like it (10 day policy), should still cover defective items.

Our 10 Day Returns policy is not available for DVD’s and may be restricted against some titles that are exclusively for online play. For further details please contact

Yeah but the point he was making wasn't that it was defective, it was that he might at some point in the near future be getting a lesser internet connection which might cause the game to lag.

I don't think that's covered by "defective" therefore he wouldn't be able to return it.

When I bought it I was warned that in no uncertain terms could I return it to the store. Although he might not have been counting if it was defective.

I'm guessing that if it's faulty you have to contact SOE for a new disk.

The very word defective covers a large base of problems, so many and so varied its hard to say whether it would or it wouldn't cover that particular problem...you could go to length of saying it game wasn't 'as described' if it stated a 56k+ modem in requirements and yet it doesn't work well on ISDN. You could just do what most people do with refunds, exaggerate ;)

I reckon it'll work fine on ISDN any way, just may chug at times in heavy action.

Gumbo is on ISDN and has been having no problems as far as I know.

Indeed, Very slight chuggage in the one really massive battle I was in, but generally it's fine.

I'm playing mainly as a medic/hacker, cos I thought that with my connection I probably wouldn't win in the one on one firefights, but so far it's been fine, and my next character may well be an all out assaulter I think.

With ISDN, isp is critical, I'm using clara.net which seem fantastic, do not be tempted to use freeserve or suchlike for online gaming.

Remember as well that all hit detection is done client side, so if you hit someone your end, they'll take damage their end.

Im using ISDN but can't decide which server to play on. I would rather play in the Euro Server with other friend from across Europe, but the yank servers seem to have more stable pings.

Infact from Pingplotter this morning Werner was coming back as 179ms with 19 hops and Emerald 120ms with 9 hops.....

Anyone else finding this, or do I just have the world worst ISP (Which I can't change 'cos I'm not on a BT line)

I'm on ISDN and the game is fine apart from some minor chug when a base is full of peeps waiting for cap.

Only problem I have is with hardlocks which seem to be happening more frequently as I play. Getting really frustrating and at the moment I'm considering quitting after 30 day freebie unless they get it fixed or issue some advice on what to do to stop it.

Ive increased the swapfile size to 1500mb and I have 768mb ram so the 2 things I've heard causing hardlocks are ruled out (1gig ram and too small page file)

Anyone else got any ideas other than defrag?

Does this happen soon as you start playing or does it slow down gradually over time as you play? Because some people on this and other forums are sugesting there is a memory leak, which will hopefuly be patched out.
Personally I am quite unimpressed with this game, not in terms of game concept and gameplay, but in its actual engine/code. Although it would seem the netcode is good. But I'm sure people are sick of hearing me complain so I will shut up now :)
