Wouldn't mind being grouped with a thrust pole armsman tbh. 2h armsmen are just silly in my eyes, as they may do somewhat more dmg than a pala, but lack utility compared to them, so I'd never go 2h on an arms.

my arms is 50 pole 38 slash (52 after + skill) an 43 parry, also he is fat an sexy but 50 pole 50 slash is a waste as damage or weapon skill are no different that 50 pole and 51 slash after + skill im lazy so went parry but slam would be better in 8 v 8 most likely.

Weap skill should still go up, are you sure? ;x
Personally I'd try full pole/thrust and rest shield, for max damage and you still get a 6 sec behind stun style, which should work fine as most targets will probably run. Don't need longest stun as you get a nice snare style (seems nice on paper anyway ~~) and a behind stun chain, which you could use instead of the shield style, I guess, tho I'd keep the shield style as an easy backup, as parry is fairly useless anyway.

I tried most specs but if you really do wanna PvP your arms Thad I'd say Gohan's is what I'd go for, lose slight dmg of it but can be easily made up in Ra's,and you got a good line of defence

I took Belg to RR8L1 as a Slash/Shield Armsman but have recently respecced to Hybrid 2handed and have to say I like it, damage output has increased substantially (300 to 500 ish) with some excellent style chains.

Once you get used to it, the full use of shield and Slam plus the ability to dish out some reasonable damage is great in both RVR and PVE. I have also recently added a nice 2 handed sword with an End proc that goes off frequently, which means I can PVE pretty much with little or no downtime.

At the end of the day, Armsman are a tough class to play and do need a bit of Love, but dont let people put you off, they can compete in RVR and can offer a lot to a group when you get to a higher RR. Who knows, when the TL reports come out we may see some decent changes and you may have the new FOTM class ready to play. But dont hold your breath:p

As gohan said... spec over 50 in slash/crush/thrust only increases ur slash/crush/thrust style dmg, while u don't use any of those on 2h/pole armsman those points r going to be wasted.

So
50 2h (or pole)
3X in dmg type (must be 51 with items, rr)
rest in shield or parry.

Slamming people of soft targets is more worth than that 43 parry that will get halfed and son as soon as soon as more than one attacks you.

Going st8 for healer or mezzer with slam is a good theory but not worth swapping and messing about when your fighting a fg and getting nuked to hell it's all good if it works

So exactly how does it work that you won't get any extra dmg while speccing over 51 in weap spec? I don't see the point in it at all :<

I remember seeing something to do with polearms/2handed

Slash is the minimum damage, ie 39 damage

Pole/2handed is the maximum damage

Dont know how this is relevant ;)

What I ment was a protection of own support. When someone slams 1 dude chasing me off me, I have 9 seconds to do something.

Two-handed has better positionals than Polearm, which does however have a better anytime than Two-handed.

Both do pretty much equal damage.

Behind snare chain on pole looks really nice tho, imo. Would be nice to have a thrust-pole armsman going after the support and snaring them. Should be fairly effective with 2 mercs on there too... I think :(
