It would be faster but wouldn't have a few of the fancy features that GF4 will have.

the GeForce4MX - NV17 will be quicker in the MHZ but won't have the same feature set, it's got partial LMA-II but has no pixel shader and it's vertex shading is done on the CPU...
the GeForce III - NV20 has a lower clock speed but does more on GPU
by 'codename' alone the GeForce 3 is newer, and technically does more, but an NV17MX would give you more bang for your buck if both are new cards.
in this instance I'd say go GF3 for no more than ~£80

before I forget:
if the GeForce 3 isn't a Ti then it's basically almost on par with a Ti200 which is £129+vat for a 128mb NEW
therefore £80 squid is pretty damn fair!

My reference wasn't to Mhz but benchmarks although regarding the features...I only realised this after reading right through your review
The GF3 is also faster than the GF3 Ti200

the difference is 25Mhz core and 30Mhz memory which even the shoddiest Ti200 will overclock beyond on a very poor day indeed

60Mhz @ DDR
the clock speed is 200 as opposed to 230 (400/460Mhz DDR) but a ti200 will get well past that
