What will happen with DAOC when SB, SWG, AC2 come out?

Just curious howmany ppl will leave DAOC when other mmorgs come out, will there be enough ppl to keep the servers going?

For me, i will keep playing for atleast a year more, started almost a year ago on the US servers and when euro daoc came out i moved to there. So far i never feeling bored while playing, yeah there can be hard times at the higher levels to find a group and there are days you loose more exp then you gain. But anyway DAOC have enough to offer to keep playing. Albion was the realm i played most in but now iam full Midgard, i looking forward to RvR and Alchemy what gives enough fun for the coming months. Yes when PvP comes out i give it a try, i have tried the beta of the euro version of EQ but after one hour i was bored. AC2 looks great but the fight system is crap. Maybe Shadowbane is the game for the future, signed up for beta a few months ago but heared nothing so far.

Personally I ordered Neocron, and said goodbye to my clans on Mid and Alb. tho I'll probably check out SI and PvP.

been playing the AC2 beta as well, and I must say I am VERY impressed so far, but so far it's mostly the graphics, as I haven't seen more then a few hours worth of gameplay.

Well sure some ppl will leave(and some of those will come back to daoc when they realize that the other games arent that much better) but there will be still enough ppl on the servers imo.

With the number of mmorpgs growing the amount of players will grow too

Hmm,

Nothing to me when any of those games come. Either they don't interest me or look too boring or too promising and in the end won't live up to the expectations.

Only game that could probably drag me from DAOC would be EQ2. And with SI on the way in a good 4-5 months, there'll be plenty to keep me hanging around for a while.

Ill prob try WoW and SWG, only if they got a free month trial.

Shadowbane sent me a mail yesterday begging for ppl to order their copy in advance, which seems weird because they are not even seriously beta'ing yet?!? Still, it looks so far at being a rip off of DAoC, well see.

Anyway, ill give this another 6 months or more, hanging out for SI and you never know things like guild houses, private horses etc might even become reality.... probably the same day Arnie Schwartzenegger makes president of the untied states.

Think this lot are getting a little ahead of themselves!

More than a year after DAoC it has got to have sommit remarkably special to pull ppl its way........from what ive seen only the mobs are interesting, the game play looks the same as most mmorpg's, so not a lot new there.

Graphics aint everything, game play is what we look for IMO

Yet I have hard to see myself leave daoc. I've simply put down so much time in this game and feel I can't be arsed to start a game from scratch again. But it can change if any of the games look very promising. SWG I really doubt, not my genre at all. WoW? Maybe, we'll see.

I think when these new games come out, some peeople will go (hopefuly the albs who are scared of RvR) and some from other realms so RvR will be a bit better with smaller or no zergs at all making the game better for anyone who RvRs alot but for people XPing its probably going to be pretty bad.

There will be enough new content to keep DAoC going for quite awhile... and I just plain and simple love the game.

WoW will attract even more l337 speaking retards than DAoC, same with SW:G aka Counter Strike in space - the combat system stinks...

I would have liked to give the AC2 beta a shot but two 500+ mb downloads were fucked so far... don't think I will try again.

well i guess il try all of them after all ul get a free month etc.But i do think that SWG will be 1 of the main online games.

But ive alredy left daoc for a while mainly due to bored doing the same thing over and over again.

Left DAOC a couple of times but didnt stop paying and always came back.

Of the new stuff City of heroes looks good but I'm really holding out for Warhammer online - sounds dark n gritty and has a unique skills system :) Drool...

well, i play daoc quite a lot (to take my mind off my q3a playing for a while sometimes, and also to get lvl 50 in daoc :)) and so far it hasnt tired me.

so ... imo daoc will have people coming to play it again, for example when SI comes out.

Darkfall Online seems very promising to me. Although, I doubt it will be out within the next year if even so. ... and then it will probably be burdened with lack of promised features (They have an amazing concept, which really seems hard to fullfill).

Anyways, what things have taught me about the mmorpg business is, that the grass is always greener...

If you look around ... the vnboards in particular, not so much here fortunately ... there is a whole lot of whining. People demands, threatens to 'cancel their account' and in general shows a huge deal of dissatisfaction with the game. You hear countless arguments about the developers being idiots, not doing enough on different areas of the game, etc.

However, It seems to me, that the amount of whining is constant. There will always - no matter what - be something to be dissatisfied with! That goes for DAoC, Everquest, SWG ... you name it.

So, quite frankly, when I grow tired of DAoC and seriously starts considering trying other games it will be due to that: Growing tired of the game ... Not because I felt the developers failed to develope. Afterall, I would probably end up getting the same idea in whatever new game I played. :)

@Whandall: I don't think "better" matters much, it's more a matter of "new" there's only so much time a game can get that much needed spark going to keep you playing. tho I admit with some it's gone sooner then with others

@Sicko: playing it atm, and it's jaw droppingly beautifull. if you got the bandwith free anyway I can REALLY recommend giving it another go

Think many will test the new mmorpg's, most peeps will come back to daoc. SWG will be shite (won't even try it), Shadowbane looks awful both graphics and gameplay and AC2 I can only laugh at... got the beta played it for a day, was the most boring game I ever tested so I deleted it rapidly. I will be in DAoC atleast until WoW and Dragon Empires get to beta stage so I can try them out... and Lineage2... or something....

How you can say a game will be shite or the graphics are bad if it hasnt been released yet?
One word for ya GAMEPLAY!!!!!

Soulcatcher isn't a Mr. last time she checked :p

I don't know yet really. been trying out various class/race combinations.
well. tried out various race/tank combinations :p
which seem pretty good. will try a mage tonight as well, see if that's any better. AND will try to get to level 15, so I can really start specializing. some of the skills look amazing! (AoE melee attacks and such for the Lugian tank!!!)

http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/AC2/Guides/default.htm

can find a lot of nifty info there. after you stopped drooling over the graphics :D

Edit: oh, and I must really try out a Lugian missile type guy. as they get to throw boulders

SWG cant wait to try but I guess with futuristic games, will probably suck too :(

AC2 played beta for a few hours, BOOOOORING.. :(

EQ2 - if EQ is anything to go by I wont bother :(

Will be playing this till I get bored, then I will sell my pc and go to bed ;D

not as it seems to be now. tho a lot can be reconized (the races, and highly likely a bunch of the skills) it does looks like it's shaping up like a DAoC alike game. I just hope they give the XP grind a good beating before they throw him from the top floor of their office.

Answer: nothing.

People still play UO, AC, AO etc. even though they're old games. Why? Because by now the games don't have many bugs and have huge amount of content and nice balance etc etc.
