What will GOA do if Mythic open a No-ToA/Restricted Buff-Bot server?

Prognosis:-

1) If Mythic opens a No-ToA/Restricted Buff-Bot server & GOA doesn't.
Some players will wander off to the Mythic servers. GOA will lose subscribers but the community won't be seriously split.

2) If Mythic opens a No-ToA/Restricted Buff-Bot server & GOA does the same.
GOA won't initially lose subscribers but the community would be more split.

buffbots are mythics intended creations to get double $$ from their players, they will only encourage you to get one, so thats a big 'what if'

My prediction is GOA would go bust.

But .... since each buffbot account = extra revenue and each copy of ToA sold = extra revenue I strongly suspect the bean counters at Mythic would never let this happen.

Anywho's ....... it would make Mythic look stupid for realeasing an expansion like ToA.
Remember that a lot of people (nope not me before the flames start) actually like ToA.
Granted not many casual players do ... but some people really like the advantages to be gained from ToA.
Actually as I re-read that its a generalisation and probably open to a lot of debate.
No doubt there will be casual players who enjoy farming in ToA or something.
But their just sick and as such their opinions dont matter

the home invasion server appealed to me before, but then I recall reading somewhere that the rule set would be similar to :-

1) Level up your characters (and realm)
2) When your forces are good enough, storm an enemy realm
3) Once an enemy realm is conquered the servers (and characters) are reset

So putting the effort into leveling a toon, only to be reset - well my mind was changed.

a non ToA, non Buffbot server may entice me to come back, im pretty much enticed at the moment! playing real life RPG's has re-lit the desire to play an online game and DAOC is definetly in the running.

I quit almost a year ago... but I'm thinking to come back, to RP in ToA and Catas

I personaly like the No ToA, No Buffbot server idea.

But since Statistics and the option to vote is an illusion made by people with money to fool the people they make money of that they care about them, i think the Invasion server will happen.

I can see that server come and go..
There will be Wave's of powerleveling sessions, signup lists and even more buffbots for faster leveling. This will be fun for a few months, then the whine will come, and the nerfs will take place, and we will quit once again.

Hib will have Fin4..
Mids will have Moderna and Malmo..
And Albs will have way to many Necromancers

Either way, its a win/win situation for Mythic, and i can asure you that GOA will NOT followup on this.

The last thing we need is another server. Optimistically it might make 100 ppl return to the game and say 'steal' 400-500 people from Excali/prywden server. The new server would most likely operate okay as no toa means the large raid numbers arent required anymore but the average server population drop for excali/pyrd would encourage even more people to leave. Some of us are quite attached to our character and would never move to a new server but will quit if the pop drops anymore.

that is probably the best reason why they wont do it, its basically like saying: "ok m8s we know our expansion you paid money for sucked, so we give you a server which doesnt suck, but thx4cash anyway"

I hate to scratch Sonys' back, but i think they had a master stroke with Planetside, tbh. For anyone who is into PvP on what is usually a MASSIVE scale, the only thing that might sway some away is the setting. No mobs or NPC's at all, just an out and out war.

Personally the only thing i could see that would give all the servers a little jiggy up would involve (apart from taking ToA and flushing it ) the frontier becoming a little more like a warzone and bringing a bit of the home fires back to the realm zones. Have portals allowing players to take existing toons to a new PvP zone, which is a seperate area but available to ALL servers. Make it totally dynamic - you wanna fight? You got it! kinda thing - instant action, portals to take you there etc.

This would leave the PvE, housing and dungeons free for those who want to go RP, XP, just sit around and enjoy the view, without having to feel obliged to join in the RvR, or even have to concern themselves with the benefits of owning keeps/relics. Keep it seperate altogether... which is a bit of an oxymoron, but hey... so am i

I wonder how many people here who are saying 'mythic will never do it' realise that there for some time been a poll on that very suggestion on the herald, to me it would strongly suggest that Mythic is at least CONSIDERING the option.

Obviously for every player who has two accounts mythic gets double the revenue, but to say that it therefore increases their overall revenue simply doesn't follow. Over the long term many people have quit the game because of the abundance of BBs, and if one player quits for every player who buys a BB, then Mythic are no better off financially. Now I doubt the number of people who have quit purely because of BBs is enough to make this the case, but most people who quit do so for a number of reasons, and for many people this is one of the main factors. Its very hard to tell over the long term where the balance lies, and for anybody to say its 'obviously' one way or the other is pure speculation.

Mythic/GoA would earn more respect from me, and i expect most of the community, if they put up their hands and said "k, we've been listening to what you lot have said... you really hate ToA THAT much??" then i don't think anyone would think the worse for them actually being pro-active about it and offering something different. As said, its not like its EVERYONE who hates Atlantis, and the guys in the office had to do something to keep us all playing, otherwise all these TOA threads would be us whing about lack of advancement.

Anyone suggest what else could've been implemented other than ML's? *shrugs* more levels? bleugh!

You can't please all the people all the time, and i think that as a sound business idea, to encourage more players they have to listen to the bums who already populate their servers - us.

Short of hiring 500 people to playtest a game for three years, theres no way any game could get to where camelot is now, without dying on its arse. They listened, and now we see hints of action - polls, opinions, sneaky previews of things... they do care!!!

I think the no TOA server was included in a poll for another reason, first of all TOA also gave you better graphics, and options separate from MLs and most people use the introduced options, so removing toa would be like: Ok we made an expansion with skin support, new graphics, new races, swimming, battlegroups, etc. and we made some content for the people who want to explore new lands, but not everyone is like them, and we listen to our customers, so who don't like TOA now can play on a single server.

They can make that server underpopulated, and if it is underpopulated and they have many other servers, and they show, that the no TOA no Buffbot server has advantages for people without buffbots, yet most of them still play on TOA server so TOA was great... Now that is good. Almost no costs to develop a such server, and easy to make sure it won't be the favorite for most people.

If GOA adds any new server type, I think it should be an existing server type: Cooperative server. Or their own version of it (Works like cooperative in most areas, and PvP in frontiers...) that make them look real good if it is successful. Why? It would get new players and wouldn't split the community so wouldn't reduce RvRing population (full cooperative one surely wouldn't draw away any rvr people)...
