I've played most of them to some extent, and my thoughts would be :

Merc - Great in PvE groups, poor in PvE solo, good in RvR (in melee combats - less common these days), great in high end PvE.

Wizard - Fire good in PvE solo and groups, great in RvR (especially keep), poor in high end PvE. Ice great in PvE groups, ok in PvE solo, ok in RvR, good in high end PvE. Earth I've not played.

Heretic - Great in PvE groups (though can be tricky to know when to heal and when to do damage) and solo, ok in RvR (probably - not got that far yet), good in high end PvE (from observation).

Minstrel - Good in PvE solo and groups, good in RvR and high end PvE. Very complicated to play well.

Friar - Great in PvE solo and groups, good in RvR and high end PvE.

Paladin - Sword and Shield - Great in PvE groups, good solo. Ok in RvR (though one per group tends to be wanted), great in high end PvE. Two Handed - Good in PvE groups, great solo. Good in RvR, ok in high end PvE.

Infil - (not played one) - Ok in PvE groups (though hard to get people to see that and invite you), ok solo. Great in RvR (if you like solo fights), ok in high end PvE.

Cabalist - Spirit/Body - Good in PvE groups, great solo. Good in RvR, good in high end RvR. Matter - Good in PvE groups, good solo. Good in RvR, great in high end RvR.

Generally if your idea of solo is person plus buffbot, the answers change. I've enjoyed all the above that I've played.

My relevant character history if you want a chat :

Merc - 50 ML9 RR2L1
Wizard - Fire 36, Ice 18
Heretic - 15 (and 12 for my wife)
Minstrel - (47 for my wife)
Friar - (50 for my wife)
Paladin - S/S 50 ML10 RR2L9, 2 Handed 42
Cabalist (22 for my wife)

Hmmm, well you already have a Sorc and an arms...

So, tbh imo don't roll another caster. I have 3 now, the last one was a sorc and is so great I wish I'd rolled it first and stopped there.

And another tank is another tank really with knobs on.

I'd be tempted to try a Friar; Ive started levelling one and they are interesting, a nice change from my casters or my pally. You could solo since you self buff or get grps as a secondary healer or tank.

Gl anyway whatever you pick!

Most of the time it is a caster war out there now, sorcs, cabbies and theurg do very well atm.
Doesn't seem to be many healer classes out there anymore, although i mostly play after midnight and i guess clerics need their beauty sleep ;p

I have never seen an Earth spec wiz out there, would be interesting to try one for tower/keep/bridge camping

No point tbfh, every greedy alb is pl'ing their alts thus soloing is made inevitable, not only is it extremely boring but a kick in the nuts really as you cant really do much about it :(

depends what you gonna use it for.. :)

Reckon in boils down to this question. I use my friar mainly for PvE, and with a healfont I can chain orange/red/low purple without any breaks in between, except for replacing the healfont :p I use Tartaros' Gift though, and there's a nice proc for friars that ensures I never run out of power, which means I can do my self-buffs when needed and keep my endurance chant on all the time.

Edit : Some random grammar

Actually, I don't :p Only have 1 account, and I like to XP normally - ensures you learn your character.
