What the heck is it about fins list?!

If I ever endure to get to lvl 40+ I wont stand a chance to let some stupid list rule my exping ways, I will do as I always done, make a group and go kill something, then if we are more than one grp at fins, that I dont care to much about, it happens in alot of places so why not there too..

People who know me, u know how I am, and how I play ;)

besides STOP with Elitism, let people do like they want, if they want to spend 10+ hours for waiting on a grp, let em, if they wanna make their own group, let em, We are here to a play a game, because its fun, not getting ruled over other players because they think they know better then you do..

Learning by Doing...

Leap - lvl 24 warden the bub caster - DA
Lewzer - lvl 7 ns of many hours - DA
Leapy - lvl 10 hero with skills in making weapon - CBH
and Xaint - lvl 8 PB chanter no big deal - XX

Proudly myself

Because fins are a baffing mob, 3 or 4 at a time. So one grp kills them quite fast, if u have 2 grps there then u kill them faster than the pop and end up with 1 or 2 per pull = bollocks xp. Fairest way is the list system where everyone has a chance of getting in to group there and the group that is there still makes ok xp. If you will happily turn up with another group and destroy the xp for the group that was there before you then fair enough. But don't expect to make many friends doing that.

Fins are not the only way to go though. This weekend we had DF for quite a while. With 3 fg's of 40-50 (Only a few 50's really) we went on a rampage there. Sure, we were not able to do all the mobs, but it's more fun, no lists (Just grab as many ppl as you can ;)) and the xp is about as good.

Ps. Next time i'll bring a map too ;)

Ok just to clarify a few things about Fins in CF specifically:

First off the list is as close to actual fairness for all as camping a spot for 12 hours or more can be, sure people can't just wander up and get in but then that would be unfair on the poor sod who's actually waited 7 hours for his spot.
Sometimes I have doubts about the people who run the list, hence why I don't bother asking and I xp elsewhere, why make a fuss about it, my fun doesn't depend on going to xp at fins, just a good place to lvl imo.

If u want to cause grief by trying to camp the main spot may I suggest a less childish alternative, camp the spot near the granny hill in CF (near where Green Maw spawns) you'll get more mobs and sometimes less mobs but at least there you aren't going to create grudges and start getting peoples backs up.
Failing that be brave and go to the fins in crim...

I think it's just civil to leave a grp camping mobs that the spawn can support one grp of in peace, why cause trouble..

I can't say that Fins is "elitist" either, elitist imo is those recent voices saying that RvR should only be for the lvl 45+ or some such, since everyone paid 6 pounds for month or so for what essentially constitutes 50% of the game I LOL... It's the one place you won't lose xp for death, personally I think the Emain rp monkeys are far more irritating, simply put I don't even think it's about effectiveness, some people just don't want to share the experience with people they consider to be leechers, come on people, 7 days a week and you have to do it right and perfect every single one of em? :)

Fins is not going to be a perfect situation, bit like those bad grp days we ALL get, just forget it and wait for the next time, the first lvl 50 character I dinged there was a blast, people like umfrot, rusty and everin kept me thinking of new and disgusting things to say ;-)

Well thanks to all the people who helped me ding (again) 50 with my blademaster culanan last night and bollocks to the rest of you who caused grief but you deserve to lvl as much as anyone in the realm ;-)

Would say more but my daughter demands I put her shoes on...gah!

Basically a DF raid is announced like this:
"The forces of Hibernia have captured.. (Insert random Alb/Mid fort here)"
You then usually see a rush on DF and ppl forming groups just inside. Hop on board and gank anything purple ;)

On the fins list: The reason list dont seem "fair" sometimes can have other reasons.
The listkeeper can go linkdead and never hbe able to get online again (Guess what, dont give me the list)
The listkeeper leaves, and forgets (in all honesty) to give some names to the new keeper.

As you might have noticed, it always gets earily quiet when the question is dropped: "Who wants to do the list"......

When I first heard about the concept of lists - that in Midgard they have a list for exping in Malmohus, I was appalled. It just sounded callous and elitist, like something only powergamers would use or even tolerate. I didn't even know at that point that the same thing existed in Hibernia.

But by the time I had soloed to 47.5 I was burning out. Regular groups were almost impossible to come by, and solo I was struggling to get a bubble of exp a day. I finally decided to try the infamous fins spot and asked to have my name put on the list, while I continued soloing. I was lucky enough to get invited to the group a little later, and a little later after that I was asked to hold the list as the current holder was leaving. I stayed there for several hours, and got 11 bubbles - two weeks worth of solo exp. Suddenly I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. And I understood a lot better why the list existed.

The list is not elitist - it's not there to keep people out. It's there to keep a functional group going at all times. You need a warden there, you need a healer or two, you need two nukers, you need a shield tank. If the group's warden suddenly has to log, the group is stuck until another comes. If there is a list, and the warden knows he's leaving in fifteen minutes, you can call the next warden and tell him to come out - and when he arrives, there's no time wasted for anyone in the group. Over the course of the day the entire group will change, but if there are enough people on the list then they should never have to stop pulling.

The list isn't perfect. It's run by people. People put their names down and then log and aren't around when their turn comes. There are always too many rogues and not enough nukers or wardens - and when rogues get into the group they tend to stay longer than the other classes because the exp is so much better than anything they can do solo. People's feelings get hurt, and people can get frustrated and angry. But I am convinced that running that list is better than the alternatives.

As for people who say they don't understand why people do fins at all because they're boring, I cordially invite them to solo a ranger or nightshade to 40. Doing fins is not much different from what I did at every other level: find a mob you can solo, find a spot where there are lots, start serially killing them: wolves, parths, sheeries, mites, irewood saplings, pookhas, irewoods, aeirs, hounds, troglodytes. In fact the fins are more fun than any of that soloing was because at least every pull is a little different and you have to work with your groupmates to hold aggro and protect the casters and healers. As you all point out, there are lots more exciting mobs to hunt in this game: on Sunday I had one of the most fun expeditions I've ever had into DF with Boo's group, we lasted a few hours, got 2 bubbles of exp and eventually got into a great scrap with some Albs deep in the Midgard section of the dungeon. But since invitations to groups like that come to rangers about once a month, in between I'll take fins if I can get them.

Hehe, good to see you hibbies having some organized hardore exping spots too. Do the fins drop anything b.t.w.? The good thing with with malmohus (lair) in middie is that there are lots of drops there. So just wondering what it's like in hibbie. Probaby will bring up that light eld on prydwen some in a while.

Fins don't drop much of anything useful: a couple of necklaces and a hammer (the famous Finliath Firebrand) thats most noteworthy quality is that it salvages for 68 diamond bars, worth a little over 150g.

The drops at Siabra City and in the Sheeroe Hills (glimmer knights & co.) are much much better.

Fin's Drops

Other than the Finlath Firebrands and the pearlescent necklace other Fins drops are the medal of Valour (+valour item) and the Stout leather Belt both of which I found useful drops. Oh, yes the cash is very nice as well. I easily cleared a plat at the fins maybe more.

Fins list rocks, wouldn't have got my shade lvl 50 without it :)
and btw, the waiting is horrid if there is a stalker or 2 before you o_0

My suggestion is to get lists else where... for example Siabra city is a good place.

I hate fins list, they always seem to cause to trouble.. ie someone goes ld just as the list holder organiser pms them, the orangniser cant contact him/her so invites the next person etc :/ Stealthers sometimes get put to one side and tanks get invited instead and stuff which I have seen on several occasions and I moan about it to the holder etc. One time I even threatened to leave the group because the stealther concerned was very close to 50 and so in the end the stealther was invited and dinged 50... (not mentioning any names)

Miss.. as for your NS, I dont know how u got to 50 so quick but nice work never the less :) I often leave my lvl42 sitting in innis flagged as lfg and ask people if I can join them but noone wants a NS :/ Its mainly people I know that group me out of kindness and friendship and so I get the odd ez trip or something but still its very very rare :( Solod most of last lvl which was damn tiresome and boring.

have you forgotten that there is a fin spot in breif 2 ? exped there 43-50 with no larger probb + there was almost always 2 groups there and the fins pop quite fast so not that much dt if you dont have a uber opted group.

one other thing ... i was the list holder about 70% of the time and if there was to many ppl in it i usaly told em to group up with each other and go exp somewhere instead of w8ting for a spot to open ..

:)

I did levels 40-47 at sheeroe then 47-49 at fins...so there are good xp spots aside from fins. Basically if you dont like fins then dont go - make your own group and find a good xp spot...theres plenty of them in sheeroe/siab city.

Btw GRATS to Culanan/Elerand (even though i hate him for getting two level 50 chars before i have my first :p) )
And why he decided to make two tanks i'll never know....

Thanks Aut, I made a blademaster because shield hero is dull! Plus I love tanks :p
Seeing more blademasters about and it isn't our CD love that makes us think we are better, personally I think we have to think on our feet a lot more! No offense to any tanks out there, no kittens were harmed in the forming of this opinion....
