xfire replaced MSN for me at home but I still use MSN and Skype while at work. I need to run Skype alongside xfire at home also for voice chat although I don't use it that much, seems most people I know still prefer telephones for some reason.

Hi TdC

I'm using Trillian Pro at the mo. It's not too expensive and happily supports AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, IRC, Jabber (including Google Talk), Rendevous (now Bonjour, I believe) as well as other such functions via plugins (e.g. RSS, system stats etc.). It's not without it's faults, and it has become a little bulky, but overall it's still very impressive. There's also a free version which lacks some of the more obscure IM protocols and the plugins, but otherwise it's a good deal.

For the Mac, Shovel and FatBusinessmnan seem to be loving Addium :)

Kind Regards

At second glance, this is rather an odd poll. 'Server browser' and 'IM client' are two completely different things in my book, and could both come under the umbrella of 'friend-tracker'. ASE/Gamespy has buddy lists or some such thing which will recognise nicknames on servers and point them out to you upon scanning. I used the now defunct pingtool then moved to ASE for my server browsing needs, and have always relied upon IRC to chat to the people I play with online - either that, or forums here and there. I've never had any use for buddy lists as I've always kept to the same couple of servers ... I could never stand random abuse: it's always had to come from people I know a bit ;)

you're quite right, I should have left it at friend tracker or something more apt :)

ASE for game server browser.

GAIM, both on linux and windows for IMs, those being ICQ/AIM, Yahoo and MSN network-wise.

And whoever the gamespy person was, ffs, go try ASE, it's much better.

Years back now I paid for GameSpy, wanting to use the 'advanced filters' to cut down time on refreshing servers, especially CS ones (yes, I've played it on and off for a few years).
So I pay up, get registered, and find the 'advanced filters' were utter crap and didn't actually improve matters any.
So I went and registered ASE (lifetime :D) as well and have stuck with it ever since.

P.S. Note that due to NOT using GameSpy (3D, not Arcade, although I don't use that either) all this time I don't know if the filters thing has since improved.

It seems moderators can view who voted for what, but I'm guessing everyone else cannot? So much for secret ballots *imagines Deebs ... 'This ain't no damn democracy'* ;)

As for GameSpy, I used many years back but it was buggy as sin. Game bundles aside, I haven't used it since :(

Kind Regards

I use Trillian at home, and then eMessenger at College if I'm bored and have nothing productive to do.. It's the only thing that works past the firewall.

Alliandre: Thanks for that. My Girlfriend has moved job and something like that could turn out to be very useful to keep within instant touch.

I used to use Gamespy back when it was Gamespy 3D, but now ASE, IRC and whatever IM client I happen to be in love with (Coccinella sometimes).
