I can sort you with an athlon 500 modded to 750 with globalwin cooler for 325 quid...

Gotta use a 300w PSU and Asus K7M mobo tho...

Overall, heres the lowdown:

celeron - excellent value, fast FPU, generally kewl chip.

K6-2 and 3 - fast integer performance, bit pants for gaming and SS7 platform is a twat with agp2x graphics cards...

PIII - again, fast cpu/fpu, has SSE multimedia enhancements, overclocks easy, just not that cheap...

athlon - smart, fast FPU and CPU, overclockabke (if u know how to solder) have 3d now enhancements...

really, anyhting but da K6-2 and 3 (and cyrix!!) is a good buy
