What now for QW?

Lets just say for a moment that Q3A has excellent teamplay maps, fixed netcode like qw's and a few other things from demo sorted.

Will you switch or continue with qw?? And will qw die anyway even if q3a is a bit poor?

well ill certainly b staying with qw for the foreseeable future. i cant really see a viable alternative for me, other games just dont have the same intensity. qw is the only game where i feel i have total control. UT is certainly a fun distraction but i cant see myself playing it seriously online . prolly just a few ffas everynow and then coupled with the single player.

q3 imo is just q2 with wank fps and feels totally heavy, wrong and laggy even on lan. i just cant get worked up over it like i do with qw. afterwards i feel nothing, yet after a rampant qw ffa i think "yeah that fuckin' RAWKED!"

qw is the only game i use an 0845 dialup for these days as im not gonna pay to play a 2nd rate game. i sometimes have a bash on q3 etc if 0800s a bit too laggy for qw, im not so sensitive to dodgy connects with other games. clan play in anything but qw is totally out of the question for me.

mebbe i only feel like this cos im a relative newcomer (started this year) to qw and it still feels magical. i dont feel bored of it like some 3yr veterans may do. mebbe its cos my PC doesnt have the grunt to spew out decent fps in recent games. but essentially it just boils down to the fact that gameplay is god. can u think of ne other games which have enjoyed such popularity even after the sequels was released?

taking an overview, i dont think q3 will b the game to kill off qw. sure, the community will shrink still further and more and more clans will fold. as technology profresses fewer and fewer ppl will start taking up the game, especially as the community becomes more and more hardcore. the learning curve is becoming steeper and steeper, Joe Newbie will of course choose the easier and prettier delights offered by q3 etc. but as long of ppl continue to run leagues for qw, i will play it. who knows, if q4 or whatever turns up one day i may decide to switch.

QW 4v4 DM is my GOD!

But a Q3 4v4 is better than nothing, which seems to be the choice atm.

If I could play QW 4v4, I would, but the few games I manage to find these days, are boring and uncompetitive.

I feel there are STILL enough players in the UK to sustain quake, but as 4v4 is the only good part of it, and these players are all sprinkled amongst largely inactive clans, no games get played.

If we can overcome that problem, I'm sure QW 4v4 can carry on for another year at least. Perhaps by then Q3+UT will have matured to the point where they are worth playing.

ps. Consider the league in ireland, where players join idividually, and are assigned teams, which they play in for a season.

I have an idea - no flames yet please - could all players who are still playing QW, and will still be playing QW after Q3 comes out, and will be WANTING to play QW properly (i.e. organised team games) - could those players please post here or mail me emrys@nildram.co.uk. If you are reading this thread and know players who feel the same, but don't read the messageboard, please get them to mail me as well. Hopefully we might be able to build up a large enough player base to sustain an enjoyable league.

Personally wether i choose QW or Q3 depends on what the prevailing opinion of my clan is (organised TeamPlay is the only game type i really enjoy - the only reason i gave up Q2 was because of the state of my Q2 clan).

The only problem i see with QWers switching to Q3 is that Q3 is a relative resource pig (QW will run on a P100 with 16mb ram, Q3 needs at least a p266 and 64mb ram - even more for serious clanplay). If one need to use FPS settings in proxies to gain speed in QW then its preditable that they'l think that Q3's a laggy piece of shit.

O god qw is dying.

Go back a few yrs to Dec 1997 when i first tried qw online. My god i was in awe of all the good players then. U would see household names when searching through gspy and find for a spec position ffs. However since players like suj, timb, ceno, blah blah have left its got less attention.

I mean for sure there are good players out there but now it lacks the buzz of playing a 'god like player.

However for gameplay qw is still the best. Ever recreate the feeling of grabbin quad and goin absolutley fucking mental on dm2/ztndm3?!? i think not. Q3a is a resource pig as well i cant get a decent fps on ma 450 v3, i mean ffs.

Another qw decline is the state of the clans. At one point when i was a wee newbie there was FA,QPD,DC,QL, SAS, so many ... all with wicked players. Now all there is in the uk is 4K.

I still wont go to q3a though cos of gplay probs. Now if iD released a point that gave back 100% air control, faster rl's, better lg's, then maybe.

Well most of you won't know me but i play qw still with the name snoopy, dozzo is my q3a name. I have been off the internet for 2 months just playing q3a on lan and against bots. Once my brother left i went staight onto the internet to play some q3a and what do i find. Server after server of crap players and when u do get a good player on the server it is who can frag the most lemmings the quickest. I'm glad that my m8 Dave has taken over the ukcl so lets hope that continue's, another thing is i've spoken to lots of ppl and allot of them want to carry on playing qw

Since i've come back from just playing on lan i've played about 4 times as much qw than q3a cos qw is just so much more injoyable.

bye snoopy/dozzo

Quake3a will be played by a much bigger audience and range of skills than and quake game before it. There will be so many newbies trying it for the first time. Qw was rampant with newbies so long ago, but now you dont last 4 seconds.

Give Q3a a year and there will be less people who dont have some sort of DM skillz.
Comparing the QW players online to the state of Q3a players on servers is laughable.

For many quakers moving on, Q3a will become a lot more addictive. Pulling those from Q2 and Qw into the scene. A few I've spoken to are moving onto Q3 100% and leaving Q2 and QW altogether, this will be their last season in either.
