Only games with classes have balance issues. Like every other game, some skills are going to be more useful than others. However, everyone will get access to them. Couple that with more game content at release than DAoC has 2 years in an you've got a pretty good game. Only thing I'm worried about is server stability/nice graphics causing fps lag in citysieges etc.

LOL I love the way you can say this about a game that isn't even out yet. And you're simply wrong about balance, as there are many other considerations, such as how to prevent the economy going into meltdown: You need to work out how to balance cashflows so that inflation doesn't reduce player's cash to nothing (all MMORPGs suffer from inflation unless they have sufficient cash sinks).

Darkfall looks to me to suffer from exactly the same problems as SWG, in that it's wildly ambitious. Player-defined legal systems? I will bet you £10 they won't exist for two years after launch.

It says Player-defined legal systems, not player enforced legal systems. Basically what it says is that you set the rules for your own town, and "hire" NPCs to enforce the rules.

Won't say anything about the economy since I'm completely clueless when it comes to stuff like that. I'm sure they'll figure something out :)

It was that kinda of system that kept UO alive so long, making it the best mmorpg of all time n'stuff.

SB takes it a little further than normal imo, dunno where SWG comes between the 2, but its better than Planetsides "we'll let u kill your own team, but if u do u get banned!"

careful about that one i used to work for sierra when diablo II was in alpha and back then the customer did not come first

now things might be a bit different several years on but i'd be a bit cautious if i were u

On the other hand starcraft/warcraft, and compare the d2 bugs i still think they are alot fewer than daoc. And if you compare budgets/competence /developing in blizzard and mythic i think blizzard wins by a mile. Im also abit unsure what goals where set for d2 (cant remember off of my head), many developers do promise alot but fail to keep it, some even have features described that doesnt exist (daoc is a fine example). And i also think blizzard want to make sure that WoW is as good as it can get (This is ofc the goal of many developers, but blizzard does have both the knowledge and money for it). Apart from that i think you really need the experince from a RTS to make a good mmo (balance wise). And while diablo was a very simple concept that involved a rather mundane task they still managed to make it fun, if you compare that to something like daoc where PvE is so boring you sometimes wanna cry i think you whould put your money on blizzard rather than mythic. But ofc its possible its gonna be complete crap, not the first time that has happend either :)
