tho I can't say I'd see myself in any of those jobs either...

The whole thing reminds me of 2 things: OPQ's used by personnel peeps and Nexialism from AE Van Vogt's 'Voyage Of The Space Beagle' (read that and see the roots of the likes of Star Trek and Alien and others, though one absolute howler - the sidearms they use ;))
