I'm thinking about adopting the Akasa one, 'TIM' (Thermal Interfacing Material), but I'd likely be asked to explain what it means, loads of times, and I'd be in danger of sound like a stuck-up t*at.

I've used 'thermally-conductive grease' in the past but it sounds like a lube. What's your favourite name furrit?

It is definately thermal paste, though I prefer to call it Larry.

"Thermal paste" if I'm feeling technical.

"Thermal goop" if I'm not.

'tim' for anything phase-change compounds (which go on solid)

'pink goop' for that bubble-gum-like stuff they stick on stock fansinks...

'thermal-paste' for things such as shin-etsu, which are a paste of solid/goop (t3h win)

and 'jizz' for that horrid white silicon gloop which the likes of thermaltake and shuttle put in their boxes...

Or you could be really evil and call it 'PVA'.

Speaking of jizz, I got some silicon-based stuff on my work jumper a few days ago and now it looks like I love myself.

I don't know, 'paste' sounds a tad gay, to me. Much like the word 'pamphlet' does. I think I'll use 'gunk'.
