Simple question really, doing some research for a project and there's no feedback like customer feedback.

Also if you could, would there be a part you'd add?

That they're sandbox games, and you're free to do whatever you want.

Not a big fan of either of them tbh, but I can tell you what I don't like about them. That's not what the subject is about though :(

Oh what you don't like works very well, sometimes even better as you can then work around those problems or replace them with opposite mechanics. Flame away :D

yeah, ok.

They're too ordinary. The games has been running on the same formula since the first GTA game, and just improved the story/gfx. GTA4 got old very quickly to me, because I've played the others, and it felt exactly like those. I think I got 4 hours in, before I realized that I was running from A -> B all the time, or getting chased.

With that said, there are some excellent sandbox games that has taken the next step - Crackdown is one of them. It has renewed the sandbox genre for me, by changing the gameplay drastically, while still being the same genre (super powers etc). It feels like they've wanted the city to be a big playground.

Yeah that's one aspect i'm going to address, creating other ways for missions/crimes to go down. More interaction and more replay value. Also want to give more choice for the player on what way things go down, not just do missions to get to the next cutscene.

I'm not planning on the supernatural, but i was planning on taking the old genre to a new level.

My fave bit is exploring and collecting the hidden things, the more the better aslong as you get rewards for it.

What rewards d you prefer? Titles, clothing options, armor, guns, new rides etc?

Just looking for the level of reward that is enough, as it is mainly a solo play game genre.

Some tangible reward, guns, cloths, powers, cars ect all good. Something that effects or enhances your char. Crackdown did it great with the orbs.

well I'd actually say that at least GTA-SA is a preaty guided game ....
at least as much as say Mass effect or most other games out there atm.

GTA London was the best, the rest have been crap.

GTA2 was worse than london, it felt like GTA: Syndicate Wars.
3/4 just got even more stupid.

( What I liked was plentiful non-retarded missions and a good soundtrack ).

I got bored of GTA4 after playing it for a couple of days. Probably because I've played the old ones so much.

I really enjoyed playing San Andreas when I was younger tho. I think just driving/flying around was the best bit. The map was enormous and had a lot of variety in the scenery. There was a desert, a countryside/mountain area, ghetto and city type area. Nothing like getting a massive wanted level then racing around the map with some tupac on the radio :D

One thing i didn't like was having to go to the gym/eat food etc. in San andreas. Having to go for a meal/bowling etc. with people in GTA4 was also annoying imo. Do people really want to have an imaginary girlfriend they have to take bowling in a computer game? ;p

Not sure about what I didnt like off the top of my head but one thing I always liek about the GTA games was their black humour.

Love both series, but GTA4 was a big let down, yes the graphics were nice looking but, it seemed to be a step backwards when compared to Vice City and San Andreas, GTA4 didn't have the size, the collectables, the missions, or things to do outside of the main storyline and the inclusion of the friend system was a personal bug for me, didn't see the point and hated it. Also found the city very boring, same with GTA3 the city got very dull very quickly, every street looks the same.

Saints Row 1 was good and had some great qualities but didn't keep my going after I had completed the main storyline, whilst SR2 was so much better in every way, though it is also based in a city, there is enough difference between all the areas to make it feel fresh, also liked the idea of having locations that were not on the map, like the underground Mall or the hidden islands. I liked the customisation of the cars and gang and avatar. Also enjoyed just having a mate login to my game and doing missions and blowing stuff up together. All the side quests were fun and challenging and loved the humour of the whole game.

Out of the two I still play SR2 whilst GTA4 sits collecting dust, but every now and then I will give GTA2 and San Andreas a quick blast.

I think saints row made it to popularity ebcause it followed san andreas style, with more humor plastered to side quests and avoided the realism to an extent.

Keeps it as a game(fun), not a gangster simulation.

GTA 4 Balad of Gay Tony DLC was really good alot more fun than the original content. You actually liked the characters more and the little dance minigames were great fun

Saints Row - I didnt really like 1 or 2 i just didnt like the city and the whole having to do mini quests just to continue the mission got old almost as quickly as constantly having to take people out on dates on GTA4
