Having done a bit of media, I now that when you do a 1 hour segment, you have to record 1 1/2 hours of material for editing purposes. Bits do get cut, other material gets saved for later use. The messages on the phone was a bit OTT (they could have faked that), and the phone messages could have been cut (unless that was the WHOLE show).
It got past the censors. How?
It got past the editors. Unlikely, they had to be in on this.
It got past everyone's good taste. Obviously (The complaints are testament to that).
They did something stupid, they have been punished. Brand quit (or so I heard this morning). However, there are still up to 30 people who need to drop pants and take a spanking over this (After all, they do hire people to make sure the 'celeb's' don't screw up like this).
Mind you, when Terry "Tight Pants" Wogan appeared on points of view, no-one told him to adjust his trousers for the sake of decency.
