and this female that interviewed me was completely uninspired. Asking me questions such as "Why are you here" with such unenthusiasm i almost answered "Hearing you, i don't really know why". Took about 10 minutes, would be really suprised if they called back but who knows. It's for a phone marketing kind of job. Really getting tired of these moronic job interviewers asking dumb questions and taking up my time.

Phone marketing?
You're going for a job where you will get the vast majority of people being rude to you and putting the phone down on you?
Hell, if a marketeer called me then I'd be reporting their company to the TPS. Phone lists should be cleansed against "Do not call" lists, but frequently aren't.

As for the woman, she's obviously lost her soul in the job. :)

not surprised ppl aren't enthusiastic about tele-marketing (the amount of shite you have to put up with from ppl; the sheer amount of stuff you have to sell to get OTE; a lot of roles in the City are pure commission, so shite money)

if that company had any pride in itself, if it knew its managers, if it cared about its PR, it would know not to send someone like that to interview potential new employees

It was actually a job where i call people whom have donated money to the Red Cross and such support organizations before, and get them to donate more or donate a monthly fee.

That is actually given. But considering the stupid questions and uninspired interviewer it gives a bad impression.

Friend of mine is in charge of a callcenter. Sometimes he does small competitions where the prize varies from an iPod to something as shit as a high-five from him

He says the high-five motivates the workers even more, because it is so lame. He won't high-five anyone during the competition, so when the winner is announced he gets his high-five infront of all the others :)

Has to be said that they all come along with one another and have regular social events that are not work related

call centres are like battery farms for chickens.

And the marketing ones are the worst

I used to like my marketing job, I represented big electronics companies and just rang folk to see if they wanted to outsource their PCB work, got to know the procurement managers and we'd be on quite friendly terms...also, I had my own office which was great and the receptionist used to bring us all tea in mornings and afternoons.

[edit: rofl how rude! sorry matey lol good luck with the interviews, I hope you get a job you like :D ]

i worked in a tech support call centre, was a nightmare, management had no clue, they drafted in some new team leaders from outside to "shake things up", which lead to chaos, and lack of pay rises compared to other companies after a bout a year or so(who were constantly recruiting new people too as they expanded, and were even based in the same business park mostly!) it meant anyone we did get to replace those who left were the discards, the morons who couldnt get a job anywhere else, was a nightmare! (in a IT tech helpdesk, i had to show a girl how to copy and paste using CTRL-C, she had never realised she could do that before grrrr)

but you have to consider, how many other interviews did she have that day? were you the first of two or three, or number twenty out of fifty?

and as has been mentioned, part of the job is dealing with rude, obnoxious people, maybe it was a test!

When I was a starving student, I took a cold-calling marketing job at a double-glazing firm run by a very, very annoying man (who does his own TV commercials).

I was given a script by my manager who spoke passable English, but it was clear it wasn't his first language. He'd written the script himself and it was full of spelling errors, bad grammar and downright rude abruptness. I'd been doing quite well in shops previously (Tiny Computers, remember them?) so naturally I binned the script and just got on with it.

Booked three visits in my first morning (more than anyone else in the office that day, including the script-loving lifers) then got asked into the managers office. He told me he'd been listening to my calls and that I wasn't following the script he'd given me. I pointed out my three bookings and also the numerous mistakes in the script. He then sacked me on the spot.

I never even got paid for the three hours I worked there :(

I might be getting this whole thing wrong, but are people actually payed by the Red Cross to do this kind of job?

Because to me, the idea of being payed to nag someone who has already had the decency to donate seems really, really wrong on a moral level. Particularly when you would be payed out of money that has already been donated(?).

I donate to two charities on a monthly basis, and if I ever received a phone call asking me to give even more, well, I guess I wouldnt exactly be happy about it.

Sorry, dont want to sound like I'm going off on one, particularly if you're doing this job, Fett :) just seems wrong to me - Spend the money on actually doing something useful, not cold-calling people for more cash.

a lot of charities do it, they hire an agency or company to collect donations for them, and the agency/company take a % cut, this encourages the company to collect lots, as it means more $$$ and its good for the charity as they make more $$$

the charity dont actually pay anything out themselves as far as i know (i very briefly worked for a company collecting door-to-door, it was soul destroying however, i am not cut out to harass old grannies who are home during the day to pay for somthing i dont donate to myself :p )

Yes they are, there was a thing on watchdog about it. Basically half of them outsource their begging to private companies and in some extreme cases they have to collect for a solid two years before the charity actually makes any money after paying costs and whatnot. Its a joke.

No dig at the OP ofc, everyone has to make a living but these charities need to sort their shit out.

I know. It really is b/s but a job is a job and it is temporary. I wouldnt either be targeting people who have already donated, i do not know why they are doing this, who knows. My first thought they are not doing with charity as their first goal.
