It's Sunday. Traditionally, a day for rest, relaxation, and blowing lots of people up. But, we have a problem. The private servers for tribes are down, [HH excepted] and the ETL have taken over the BW private servers.
So, for us at least [DT], we can't train. Pity that the funcup starts tomorrow.
Oh yeah, that reminds me, the MPTL have taken over the tribes private servers for all of us on Thursdays.. gee thanks. That leaves us with 1 training night a week, Tuesdays. Of course, that aint likely to be there for long, what with the UKTL and Season 5 coming up.
I've been very greatful to UKonline for supporting tribes with the DT server, and other private servers, and I can understand them wanting to generate some more revenue or advertising with them, so no kick at their new policy.
The questions I'm asking are these. If DT are having difficulties finding a server to train on, then how about the tribes that don't have that luxury available to them? What are they going to do for practise? The other [non-UKTL]leagues are all very willing to 'borrow' servers, when are they going to put up ones to replace the ones they take away from the general community? Looks like Tribes is definately becoming a game of 'haves', and 'have nots'

Well, thats always been the case with clans I've been at (Namely -=IG=- and now -I^F-), having to constantly negotiate a loan of a server for an hour nearly every time we have to practice, and its a bloody pain in the ass. Perhaps tehre should be more *general* private servers rather than clan owned ones, I don't know, I guess its got nothing really to do with me but might as well get the viewpoint in.
On the note of lack of servers to practice TAC on because I know a few teams were complaining about it, the private server running the mod was free almost all of Saturday, with people only joining and asking of its availability once I had got my team in there for practice */me hmmmmms*.
On a further note however, I can't see any reasoning behind allowing the ETL to use the barrysworld servers for their competition, because it severely restricts teh amount of practice time available for those sides who do not have access to another *good* server (ie. not those damn wireplay ones again)

All the ETL servers are available to tribes who want to train on them, you just need to look beyond the uk server list. I’d recommend the MnO and world online servers for uk players.

When u refer to training do u mean training on your own (as a clan) or training with another clan? Cause in my experience training on your own is a waist of time.

It's always been the case where a league such as the ETL has used the BW servers. If your trine is having trouble finding a server, just find one thats empty and kick anyone who joins so you can practice in peace

(Tactic employed by my former tribe TD during time's of crisis, hehe. Apart from that tho we used the BW and WP priv servers when they were available)

Seriously though, unfortuantly you have no right to servers. If they're there for you to use, use them, if not, bw and wp have no obligation to provide them for you.

Such is a problem with my q3 clan atm, having to borrow other clans servers and probobly purchasing one of our own in the near future.

Its Sunday and HH wish to practice TAC but it hasn't been installed on the server and Im not sure how stable it is. So I upload the files and stop all other servers except the HH one since they arn't being used.
HH have a practice on TAC and find it is alot more CPU intensive and can crash occasionally during Excessive turret and RL fire.
This also gives Crunchy and I a chance to use the TAC admin and to see how the server responds.
During this time I was on IRC and was waiting for anybody who wanted to use their server to contact me but none did.

I don't think you lot realise how much it costs to hosts servers outside of Uni. and how hard I had to work to get the servers (it took me 3 years of begging).
If you are unhappy with the fact that some people have private servers then either get somebody at a Uni to host one or spend the £16,000 or so it costs to professionally host one.

As I said above, no kick at all to UKOnline for the system they use, I and the rest of DT [and I'm willing to bet, all the other tribes who have access to one of them]are all VERY greatful for the chance to use their servers.
This post was aimed at the use of the barrysworld servers, by leagues who 'borrow' them, and don't put anything back.

What I'd like to see is the ETL putting up servers, to give us all, BW admins as well, more access to servers when needed. [The MPTL already do this, even if they are having difficulties with them, at least they have tried] If as Zach said, the ETL are already doing this, then why are they not registered on the UK master list? Afaik, there isn't a European Tribes master list, perhaps someone could correct me about this?

I must make a few points here -
BW 1 and 2 are used by the ETL sundays and wednesdays - but this doesnt mean they cant still be used by UK tribes on these days. Sundays they can be used up until 7pm BST and Wednesdays you can usually find one of them free. This was a problem only with TAC - when the servers are dedicated to ETL - TAC is not on them. Its not the ETL's fault!
Also - there are UK teams in the ETL and the BW servers are a godsend for them. ETL 1 - the complaint of playing on 'strange' servers with 'terrible pings' doesnt wash anymore with ETL2000. CL played all ETL2000 matches except one on BW - the result nice even games (pingwise) and a really enjoyable season. BW is mainly used by the ETL for UK tribes and to balance pings for some other games featuring non-UK teams.
The problem is still the perception of the ETL in many UK tribes' minds imho. I was tired of tribes but the ETL2000 really made it enjoyable again for me and all of CL. Great games against great new teams (to us) to fight!
I can understand the frustration of not being able to play TAC when wanted - although it was just for one day. CL had never practiced and got a last minute prac very late Monday night. We lost - but so? Apparently it was most fun - (I was playing the BWUTL championships until my modem died - doh!).
Anyway just a bit of info - NOT a flame .
I recommed the ETL for all tribes - you really are missing out on something...

At least you could get ON the TAC servers X. I find I can only get on them about one try in five because of the sheer number of peopl who use it.

The ETL have made good use out of servers which were at the time being used rather little.

The servers are there for practice for UKTL teams on thursdays, fridays and saturdays (unless there is a megagame) and indeed any time a match is not being played on them (this includes the other days of the week, just get on early and be prepared to leave if asked by a UKTL or ETL admin). If you have any particular problems, come see me on irc and I'll try to sort something if its at all possible.
