Well....it's kinda disappointing

TRIBES 2.

Played it now for 3-4 days on and off and I have to say that I am unlikely to be a regular player of it.

It lacks something. Indeed I would rate it below CS, Q3 and UT as an online game IMHO *****NO FLAMES PLEASE****.

I played Tribes 1 and thought it was OK, but T2 was pretty hyped and it has failed to live up to it.

The patch upon patch thing hasn't helped either.

What do u guys think?

You have a point, the game can seem pretty bland at times, big open spaces, a sense of 'what should, or am i sposed to do next' But imho the more i play it, the more i like it:) I dunno maybe because of that the game might suffer some what. Still i do belive it's gona get a big following, but maybe not as much as it should, imho people are gona flock to team fort 2 when they finally get it out.
However one thing iv'e had to do though is change my playing style now, i started off playing as an asault armour class, with repair kit ect.. Well as i quake dm guy, iv'e found myself changing class to a scout, with an energy pack, just because i have next to no chance in a fight without the abilty to get postion over any scout/energy that attacks me, thus i mostly end up losing out. Anyone that understands duel, deathmatch will tell you postion is king, not just reactions, since doing this, iv'e seen my scores/kills treble, kinda sad that:( as i would prefer the other class:)
However if your feeling down though, just jump in a shrike, or beo and go player hunting allways a laugh that:)

It has exceeded my expectations. I havn't even played any other games since i got this and i doubt i will be in the short term future. There is just sooooo much to do in a game it is fantastic, I havn't even played a clan match yet and so far the teamwork is incredible. I think what makes it so succesful is because it is so complicated, you are always learning new things, and capping in this requires a lot more skill than any other game, i spent 2 hours today working out routes off flag for some of the maps so I can ski away from the nme base as fast as possible.

I honestly think it is the best game i have ever played, and i have given up (deleted) HL/CS to create more swap space on my puny HD for it :).

T2 Initial Impressions

Gotta go with Custard on that. The game has a learning curve and a lot of depth to it. Stick with it and I think you will be rewarded. A lot of people may drop off - because you have to use your brain + reflexes, and that might not be a bad thing.

Admittedly, i wasn't that impressed with it when i just got it... installed, played for half an hour, then played cs for a couple more hours... Since then i've gotten used to it and am learning all the tricks etc... It's a really addictive game, and i can't wait to get into a clan for some real team games :)

Then again, the first time i played cs i wasn't impressed either...

OK guys, you've convinced me.

I will give it more of a chance and then we will see.

One thing about it is that with those Red or Green arrows above yer head there isn't much stealth to the game is there?

LOL yeah ;)

And making your route avoid sensors is helpful too :)

The arrows only appear if they are within your sensor range or if you spot them :)

That depends, if you want to go kamakasi into the nme base and destroy as much as possible, it is better to take a ammo pack, energy pack or a sheild pack. If you want to take a stealthy approach, you can take a cloak pack (invisibe to other people) or a sensor jammer (invisible to turrets). Both remove the arrows above your head when they are on.

But don't think that because you're invisible means you won't be seen! Sensor jammer packs decloak cloaked players, and motion sensors help turrets lock onto you even if you're invisible.

That's one of the features I like about this game, every tactic has a counter-tactic... a bit like scissors/paper/stone.

i haven't played CS since T2 was released if that is any indication. if you are new to online gamin, i would recommend CS without hesitation, but if you've played Q3 / UT / CS for any length of time, T2 is a welcome change.

Yeah thats prolly about right there tom, since i strayed from the quake 2 community iv'e kinda been drifting between cs/tfc/fa ect... If i were to make a new home, prolly tribes would be just that, but imho first impresions ain't been great, due to the newbie bashing and bullish crap posted here over the last week:( Hopefully that will die down and things will settle abit:)
Btw i was playing the other day, and this shit hot capper, all of a sudden swaped his role, and did a rather anoying camp on are gens. He was a heavy class with a mortar, and had a dam shield pack:( Prolly could have removed him, but due to the extreme lack of teamwork going on, going down there in ones and two's was rather pointless;)
