You have to wonder what would the outcome have been if Labour had changed leader last summer after the horrendous losses at the local elections.

260 odd seats with Brown and a awful record is quite some "bedrock" of support.

Who with though? Not one of the cabinet has any redeeming features. I used to quite like David Miliband but his smugness in the face of Labour's failing policies has put me off a bit.

First past the post distorts the number of seats to 1st/2nd place in the popular vote, so no - it isn't quite some bedrock of support.

I'm not so sure - without the "Brown Factor" where would they have been? Almost neck and neck probably.

FPTP is an interesting factor - I myself didn't vote for who I wanted to vote for since it was a straight two horse race in my MP's constituency.
