Weekly pickup night

Hi folks,

I have been trying to promote an idea in Hibbie land to offer a semi balanced group night to those interested in signing up for full group fights. The idea is to try and open up the FG style of play to people who do not normally have access to a full group or whose full groups have split up recently. The idea is to try and broaden participation and promote wider full group action other than the current situation of there only being for example realm rank 10+ fully opted killing machines...

This narrowing of full group action is IMO bad for the game and bad most of all for FG action. So I was hoping to stimulate a bit of a debate about how to widen participation so we can offer more people a chance of getting a run out and stand at least a 15% chance of survival. If this style of play is to be promoted we do have some responsibility to try and give people a chance to have a go. Thats all I want to try and do here - its up to them if they want to do it then or not.

Ok so when do we do this?
Tuesday nights

How is it done?
We do a sign up thread here for example.

How has it gone?
We have had two nights so far and both nights have been fun even though high rr Albs and especially Mids have caned us (understandably). However despite this one of the big benefits has been meeting others from teh realm and shit like that. I am not sure how the gang that has turned up have felt about it but I have enjoyed a beer and a chat on those ocassions that we have had it. We usually use Vent I have a channel setup for this although sometimes we do change channels for those who have restricted ports access for example.

Down sides
The biggest down side is people not showing. I don't want to judge those who can't make it since the idea is only finding its feet, and this is supposed to be an easy going thing. But we have lost quite a bit of time trying to fill slots for people who have not turned up and that can be a bit irritating. However I am hoping that things are gradually getting better since we seem to have a few people regularly signing up.

Anyway can I make an appeal to the other realms to please have a go at organising some pick up groups to come out and make a game of it. If we were to meet a few other random pick up groups it would make it more enjoyable. As for the high rr folk this is being done to try and widen participation if some of you could help out by organising similar things in your own realms it would maybe help improve the server.

Lastly the group will be out tomorrow night drinking beer and generally waffling around I hope it is a good night I will be chatting to them even if there is no slot left in the group. I wanted to let you know about this and also to see if we could field some opinions from people on the subject.

kind regards

Sharkith

This is a realy good idea, its all well and good doing FG v FG but lately the only real groups out have been RR and OG which is kinda one sided if you are in a pug (or if you're just getting started with a new guild and haven't quite settled in yet).
No offense to said groups but it does kinda blow to spend time making a pug just to get some fights and simply stand little to no chance due to not being 100% opted and certainly not having the same level of experience.
I suppose its good for you guys anyway since you'll have more rps to farm :p

An excellent idea to be honest, it sucks not being able to find groups to run with in RvR and running this weekly pick up grps gives people that normally aren't running with groups or would like to try it out a chance to see how its like and maybe they will take the iniative to form grps themselves.

Just join Synergy for that tbh.

This is a good idea really cause it would get more ppl rvr'ing in fg vs. fg which is always a good thing. Could help the game/cluster quite a bit...

Thanks for the good feedback - it will only work though if we get more people trying to do the same thing on similar nights from the other realms. I am hoping that other Hibbies will try to do it as well on nights when I am already booked. So please think about this:-

nothing but high RR groups will kill FG action - it is also partly why Agramon is dead.

As for the guys who have been in the groups - I think they have had a laugh when they get going and yeah it is tough when your opposition is nothing but Lords and Ladies or that RR11 Mid group. So if the idea is to survive it needs more people trying it out elsewhere to make a game of it.

Every group i run in is a PuG :p

Well done on trying to get this going, think problem is that even a lot of the PuGs on alb are fairly high RR. Gingy runs a lot of puGs, but we all seem to be rr8+ in them most the time, but then the fact he in it lowers the quality down :p

i think i know how you can work this even if you dont have a lot of people
make grp of 5-6 and add on every fight like ec does :(
oh yea, hug spam people too right after you kill them to make them even more annoyed by noticing your name, let alone they noticed your guild emblem

We'll be running a rr 2-5 albgroup a couple of nights a week at least if nothing unexpected happens.

Hi Eruptix,

lets be clear they will be trying to run to a no add rule - but people need to be fair to them this is a random group and accidents can happen. What is more important right now is for Albs and Mids to try and do the same thing - then we might have a game of it. :)

Big thanks to the following for making a night of it:
Bugzy
Lochlan
Dreadnaugh
Groal/Samalula

The following stood in when we seemed to be missing a few people:
Elwarden
Vger
Gruagach
Jamiena
DKslott-e

We had a very good tonight and it was funny. I just wanted to say a big thanks to Albs and Mids who came especially those lower RR groups - we died and won some I really had a good night. I hope you guys whoever you were enjoyed it because I know some of our gang have never been out in a group before and they seemed to have fun.

We will be doing the same thing again next week.

Was gd fun and those groups that did beat us don't think you did it that easily (except that one group who absoluotely annihilated us )). Tendrils is an OP ability vs. us hibs and once its fixed you won't be able to interrupt us as easily.

Made a good 20k, had some fun and learnt quite a bit in regards of using the right tools in the right situations.

Tendrils is OP vs any group as all realms have access to it. Be carefull slaming or stunning a potential BL tank is the only way to avoid it unless you know you can kill him before the stun wears off :)

Had a pretty horrid night, lots of adds and we seemed to get some rotten luck. :(

The difference is an RR8 PUG can be beaten if you play well as a lowish RR group, even if it's not easy. A RR10 set group that knows exactly what each other is doing really isn't if your playing in a randomish low RR group.

Hope your succesful in getting the idea going!

Also it tends to be a non opted setup too, basically he gets two clerics, a sorc and then its just fill with casters :p

Ran one with 7 men, no sorc the other night which was actually a right laugh, sitting there mezzed while the casters bolted everything :p

sounds a bit like us last night it was news to some of the group that the BL tank was running through them causing all those problems. Eventually they nuked the shit out of him as soon as he appeared (proper order too).

Seriously we need more low RR /mixed RR groups out. I am certain we did not add all night we were certainly going out of our way to avoid adding.

Main thing is that you are having fun... would have been running in Gingy random group of doom if it wasnt for the football :( But it was Brazil, they needed to be watched even if they were a little disappointing
