Ok I need a paladin template for a defensive pally. I would have hijacked Kalthorines post but my requirements are slightly different to his.
I have (activated) Winged Helm and Belt of the Sun. I'm not allergic to getting more artifacts but I'd rather not have more than a couple.
I also have a legendary Heat shortsword, usual quest jewellery stuff and I can get hold of MP plate if I want to.

I'm not fussed about damage output, I'd rather hit fast than hard and I'd rather block/parry/not die like a demon than get killspam. Old age kills stuff before I do and I'm entirely happy with that.

I have tried to put together a few templates but I can't seem to get close to what I want which is why I'm asking for help here.

I need capped (with +cap where possible) skills (shield/parry/slash), hits, dex and con. Other things I'm less fussy about.

Here's the hard bit: I do not want to use any cloak or shield that can't be emblemed and I don't want to use any uber expensive kit such as ML10 gear or rare drops.

If you want a cloak that can be emblemed, I'd probably try to put Feathered Wrap into your template. One of the better 'rog' cloaks in the game. And I'm 99% sure you can emblem it.
Not very hard to get, but can cost a bit over 10-12p if you are not able to farm it.

Maybe you'd like to use the mantle of desert shadow (costs about 1p and drops of Chisisi - band of stars encounter mob)
stats are:

40 hits
15 con
40 hits cap
6 con cap
6 dex cap

seems to have quite some things you need on it

and I'd use a ceremonial bracer too (dex or con version)(not thaaaat expensive around ?3-5p? if you buy all the 3 scrolls):

18 dex/con
40 hits
5 dex/con cap
40 hits cap
6% slash/thrust resist (dex version has slash and con version has thrust)

maybe a band of stars too (again ?3-5p? for the scrolls [I'd guess] and 50g for the arti):

5% matter
5% body
5% spirit
5 dex cap
5 con cap
40 hits cap


both artis exp in RvR (quite fast too) and you can farm all the scrolls solo (may take some time tho): You can solo the band of stars encounter too but it's not a guaranteed drop and thus I'd do it once and then spend 50g (or less) on the arti. The ceremonial bracer is a bit harder to get but shouldn't be much of a problem if you're in a semi-helpful guild and got some friends
But I'd definitally get a ceremonial bracer as it has quite a good ability too


Edit: The cloak can be emblemed but it doesn't have a hood. It does have a
collar tho.

Edit2: I don't think that the feathered wrap can be dyed...but I'm not sure.

Feathered wrap = ml9 cloak, has a pattern on it and can be dyed? Or am i thinking about something else ;o

Anyway, would suggest using a cloak like magma mantle from Typhons (ml6.1). Ml6.1 is easily farmable, and can have embelem placed on it, so ;p

Also, Typhons has many nice cloak drops with +cap, so might be worth looking around there.. Think i've had 2 nice tank cloak drops around there only have the one left though.

I dont think Feathered Wrap is emblemable afterall. When I thought about it, stuff like Magma Infused <insert name> from ML7 is not possible to emblem either.

Cloak is able to be Guildified shield is not ;/

Missing 11 parry ... but you get 80pt Heal procs on sword and Shield and 130pt Heal proc on BP. 10% mele combat speed and overcapp'd str for WS increase (which helps modify Block/Parry rate).

Two of the items Gem and Ring are rouge rewards (since they have dex as primary stat and not str) but im sure there are enough Scouts who have spare ones ^^....

Thanks for all the input so far. The emblemable shield and cloak isn't negotiable and if possible I'd like to use both the artifacts that I already have.
The collared cloaks look nice and are probably a good idea. This is where my template building falls down - I simply don't know all these cool items.

Im using Grand Summoners Silken Mantle in my new template. Saw one on CM few weeks ago, maybe its still there.
