Webby updating

Just writing to say that it's a shame that the bwra3l website isn't updated all that quickly. I know fix has a lot to do and the league is run very well and all respect due and all that....but would it not be possible to let perhaps a couple of senior admins update the scores and league positions on the same day or soon after.

I don't know about anyone else, but i usually forget to look come the middle of the next week, and it's a shame, as it's a great league and very competitive.

I don't know either what some of the other BW leagues are run like, but i know the q3 TDM league site gets updated fairly quickly.

This isn't a post to bitch and whine, far from it, I just wondered what the current state of play is and if there are any plans or any chances for it to change..

Well, A3GIR, demos and comments would be nice I agree, but that would also, in my opinion, demand more work, time and coordination from admins/webmaster.

But I agree on the fact that if someone could help TheFixer to update that webby more often, it would be nice, I'd say, for every player who participates to this league.
I'm always very interested in the other teams' / divisions' results, and it's quite disappointing to launch IE, click on the barrysworld RA3 league link in my favorites, and discover some old news 3 consecutive days.

But nevertheless, this is less a critic than a wish, because I'm very satisfied with how this league is being runned, as I'm beginning my second season of barrysworld league with my clan BunK, and I do appreciate the way you decided to change a few rules (about 5vs5 only, map9, etc) after having consulted us in this forum.

Simply consider then that I would like this webby to be updated more often, and admins to post demos/comments... only if it is possible

knowing how far behind / in front you are after each match is a must!

put it this way, if the BWQ3DML can get our results up quickly, there's no reason why the RA3 ones should take any longer

Well, Fixer doesn't get paid to do this, biffy does and its his job so he "has" to do it. Fix deos two leagues, RA2 and RA3, thats nearly 100 clans to look after. That maybe more or less than the bwq3dm league, but that is not important - its alot of work and when you are getting sod all back for it, sometimes maybe its a bit difficult to 'get going'?

I know that teaser, and I do not criticize fix for what he does, in fact I do congratulate him for all that he does, really.
I know it's always easier to criticize when you just have to sit and watch than when you are doing the job.
The only thing I am wondering about is if he could get any help for the job to be done quicker, because it's obviously a lot of work for a single unpaid guy, and I like to be informed as fast as possible.
But hey, I know nobody is gonna die from waiting 3 or 4 days after the wars are done to get the results

Didn't drag you in, just making a point. This comes up quite often, people don't appreciate the work involved in running the RA leagues. Most people who complain don't have a clue what they are talking about, wouldn't run the league themselves supposing they had the chance, but will still whine. Bored of it.

Umm, are all the above posts invisible or something. As I said in the first post, this ISN'T a thread to whine, and we do appreciate what fix is doing. The whole purpose of the thread was to find out if there was any way for someone to help him update the scores and tables on a weekly basis. In fact, looking over the replies so far, i don't think you could say that anyone is whining.

I have a suggestion. Why don't Barrysworld sort out a flashy automatic league table jobber. This would enable results to be entered on the fly by admins, taking work off Fixeh. We had one back in the days of the UKCCL - the moment we had it, league tables were always bang up to date. It's not like BW don't run many leagues...

An automated system is in the pipeline, the first stage of this automation is moving the sites over to Neville (the QuakeNation backend) to allow easier managing of the sites and multiple access. This has started allready, http://leagues.barrysworld.net/bwaqsl is one example. Looks exactly the same as when it was html but is powered by a quite nifty system.

As i've said though in the mean time i have offered to update the results/tables sections of the Webpage for Fixer as i have access to the site, i could guarantee you it would be updated by Sunday Afternoon/Evening at the latest as allthough i'm busy with other BW stuff i would make the time.

There's one thing far more sad than the "too few updated web site league" : games are to be played on saturday afternoon.

Are there any good reasons for that ?
Because I can see only bad points.
Who the hell stays at home playing games on saturday afternoon ? When shops are opened, when it's time to get sun tan or go out with friends ?

I'm from the BunK clan, and if I remember well, we have played 99% of the game with only 4 players in the past season, the 1% left we got default loss.

I really think that this league is one of the best existing, but I would have no more any doubts about that if the games were played later in the evening or on sunday (or any weekday in the evening, whatever)

If i recall correctly the reason Saturday afternoon was chosen was partly due to server availability and partly due to the fact that most other times (Except for Fridays) would clash with multiple leagues for ra3 / dm / ctf. This is still the case as far as i know, whilst i know quite a few of the clans in the league are Ra3 only a number of players in these Ra3 clans have TDM and CTF committments.

I'm completly agree with Oued, the second season of BWRA3L has began, and a lot of matchs have been won by forfeit :\

Cause on saturday afternoon, we have other things to do than playing Quake ... Especially for the ones who works during the rest of the week

For me, matchs on Saturday aren't a good thing ... For the teams, matchs and the whole league

Div1 : 50% of the games with "Default" as a result

Div2 : 50% "Default" games

Div3 : 50% "Default" games

Div4 : 66% "Default" games

Div5 : 33% "Default" games

well if you have time to spend calculating percentages of defaulted games then u certainly do not have much of a life


And how many of those defaults are because of peeps being busy? very few.

If you take division 1 for example KoTR don't really like ra3 and never really practiced it. TP lost their connections cause of colleges closing for summer and XL are pissed off at the pings they get from Germany to the UK.

So as you can it has nowt to do with peeps being able to spare time

Well I agree aswell Saturday afternoon has to be the worst time of the week for us, alot off ppl do go out on a saturday or go down the pub and shit.

regarding nightstikes comment about it not being a problem for himself well i think if we pld at 6pm we wouldnt have a problem so here's an idea let all the established DIV 1 clans with 2000 members play at 2pm DIV 2 3pm and so on, seeing as they have so many member's as most of the lower divioned clans are newish clans with less member's and more chance of having to default due to lack of playa's because they are busy on saturday, I could more or less garantee we would never have to default if our matchs where at 6pm but for the last 2 weeks we have nearly had to default for only having 4 ppl but just managing to get a 5th playa in time

erm no matter what time or day you play your game at, theres always going to be someone who cant make the game or complain, not that many people have a problem with saturday tbh just a select few (see above) if your in the league then you should be willing to make the time to play, if you're not willing to make time to play, then erm you know what to do.

Fixer does a decent job with bwra3l and i agree it would be nice if the website was updated a bit quicker, but his role is slightly different to bigfoots and it isnt fair to comapre them to one another.

Im sure even if the Admins cant help Fixer update the website there would be a couple of people from the leauge/clans etc willing to help him till this new system bif said goes in place.

The thing i find funny is that EVERYONE knows that the league is played on SATURDAY so when they join the league they should be able to play on saturdays. Taylors clan UKLD cannot play on Saturdays and therefore don't play in the BWRA3L. If you can't play on Saturdays then why enter the league?

My clan would have problems fielding a team most days apart from saturdays due to shift working etc..basicaly it comes down to "you cant please everyone" and as Nightstrike said Clans know when they sign up that the league is run on a saturday.....................

well its not up to me to change times so it doesn't matter what i say about them. And although u may think that div 1 clans have loads of extra players they still want to play their best team. Also the system whereby lower divisions playing first seems to be a BW way of running things as its done so in all (q3) leagues.
