Weapons and effective damage

Could someone pls explain to me how this works? You got base dmg, clamped dmg and effective dmg. One would think that effective damage was the only thing to care about, but doesn't seem to work like that.

No matter what kind of axe i look at on a merchant the effective damage is always 2.5 same for a iron hand axe as an alloy double bladed axe. The base dmg on alloy is way higher, but effective dmg is the same. Seems it only calculates from clamped dmg or something.

I'm really confused here, would greatly appreciate if someone could explain all this, and tell me if its worth spendig alot more cash for an alloy axe.

So whats the point of base dmg? And also whats the point of getting a large slow double axe rather then a very fast hand axe when both have effective dmg at 2.5?

well,
if you are lower level than the weapon, the weapon dps will be "clamped", if you are higher level it will just do "basedmg".

about faster/slower weapons..

dps*spd = damage per swing.

your dps cap is 1.2+ level*0.3.

anything over that gets "clamped" down to 1.2+level*0.3 dps.
