Weapon Crafting question

It says here that when you get to x70 skill in WC you can start making hammers which are the cheapest(ish) item to make before you start making round shields. When I looked at my list of items I could make it said that hammers go yellow at x15 skill so at x70 they aren't even red yet. Does anyone know what hammer he is referring to or is there another cheap alternative that I could skill up on?

Another question...at 670 skill I seem to be spending around 500g just to get my skill up by around 5 points. Is that normal or am I just suffering a from an extreme bout of bad luck?

replace 'hammer' with 'spiked mace' from X70 to X80. Then do shields from x80 to x10-x30 (the longer you do shields the cheaper your skilling will be, at the cost of taking more time to raise - your choice, cheap or 'fast').
