water & shadow effects

hope someone here can help me out.

Every time I return to the character selection menu or when starting the game up all my settings in the shadow effects and water effects menus gets resetted really bugging me to have to change it every single time I want to start the game and every single time I want to switch a character.

thanks in advance for any kind of help I can get

reinstall your gfx driver (properly by unstalling it first) and dx, get the latest dx if u havent

Sounds to me that because they are working ingame and just not saving then reinstalling the gfx will do nothing.
The entries for torch and shadow effects are contained in the User.dat within the SI directory.
Ensure that this file is NOT write protected.
Otherwise, it will not save the configuration and you will have to re-enter it

yes already checked so it isn't write protected (it isn't) well the effects work ingame, but I noticed another thing, seems I was wrong, even if I change the effects in the main screen it change back as soon as I get back in game, can't turn reflective water off

edit: also tried with the reinstalling of gfx driver since I had graphical bugs
