Warning: Cdrwin V5
Not a hardware issue exactly but I'm posting this as a warning.
Some of you may know of, or use the application CDRWIN v3/4 produced by Goldenhawk software.
CDRWIN v3/v4 is a great little app for burning cue/bin files and doing just about everything else you'd want with a cd writer - I like it a lot...
Unfortunately recently another company - which was allowing Goldenhawk to use the CDRWIN name under license took back the rights and has developed a new application under the same name (V5) which has already caught out a number of people much to their detriment.
CDRWIN V5 is a bug-ridden nightmare which can seriously damage your windows installation... Two test machines were used as ginuea pigs earlier this week to test some of the issues people were having with version 5. Both machines - one Windows 2000 the other Windows XP experienced serious stability issues after install. After uninstalling the application on our standard ghosted build of windows neither machine could access their cd rom drives or writers. In some instances this can be fixed by altering certain filter settings within the registry but even then serious stability problems were found.
It's a crying shame that a company would 'poach' the use of a license such as has happened in this case - even if Goldenhawk didn't own the CDRWIN name you'll probably agree that by now the name is unarguably theirs... as it stands a bunch of cowboy coders are trying to knock up a 'next gen' app and at present are churing our such terrible rubbish that it is not only resulting in damage to peoples OS's but also puts a large black mark on the great name Goldenhawk have made for the brand...
