Warden's Thornweed Field questions

I'm levelling a warden and i have 8 points to spend. I already have MCL and i'm wondering if it's worth for RVR to spend 14 pts on this ability. So I have some questions for you guys who have more experience than I and who have used this already.

  • Is this some kind of "damage over time" ?

    Does it interrupt casters/healers ?

Any idea on the range you can cast this ?

How big is the area of effect ?

    Does the area has a fall off, if yes how ? (e.g. 100% - 0% or 100% - 50%)

Is the "cloud" visible in any way ?

Is there a casting time, if yes, how much sec ?

Any other useful information is welcome.

I was wondering too if this is worth getting. Have seen it in action alot, but not sure how much damage it does. Here the info I got on it:

Ground-targetted cloud spell that lasts 30 seconds. Every 5 seconds, anyone within radius of the object representing the center of the cloud takes damage and is 35% snared. The damage is percent based, and goes up with the user's level.

from warden TL report*
When you cast TWF it instantly drops a bag in the spot you have previously targeted. It will stay there 30s and each tick (5s apart) after dropping it will hit each person in range with a DD and a snare. The damage it does at high levels is about 100 per tick (it does 'matter' damage) to an even con enemy. Once an enemy moves out of the area effect they no longer take damage or are snared. The area of effect is as large as any AE spell in the game... it's pretty big.

Note again, that it always tries to cast at the last spot targeted even though the cursor is always relative to you when you hit F5. This is one major point of confusion, but when you understand this it can be an advantage. If you setup your cursor to be 20' in front of you then you can always tap the F5 key to target 20' out and then cast TWF.

It's also important to note that using this skill should not be taken lightly. The ticks will break mez so be sure to coordinate with Bards. One way of doing this is letting them mez and then as enemies come in drop your TWF at PB range. Then it ticks on the people who run in to fight. In the same vein, note that you will aggro monsters with it if they are in range too.

some side notes:
-first tick is bugged (doesnt work)..means grps with speed can rush through it before they get hit. (not fixed in 1.62)
-the damage is worthless with all the high resists.
- purge (bub is down after mez/stun) or serenity 1/2 would prolly be better after mcl or longwind.

imo TWF is not worth the 14 points it costs. The snare is hardly noticeable, the damage is a laugh ( 100 dmg on even con, matter damage, so with matter resist-buffs easily available in alb+mid you will end up doing 50 dmg on each target). The only good thing is the interrupting, but that won't help you much vs tank-heavy mid-groups. In the end it's uses are too few and too situational to be worth the 14 points it costs. For 8 points i might consider it, but at it'S current cost you'd be better off to spend your points on purge+IP, so you are able to keep the bubble up as long as possible.

For a warden IP(23), purge(10), serenity II(4+4) and MCL(3) are required before even thinking about twf. That's about 44 rps? I used to have TWF and found it utterly useless. It breaks mez and aggroes nearby mobs, it does no damage at all, the first tick doesn't work, the interrupt only works the first tick that does work and not on the other ticks (like any dot). The snare hardly has any effect unless you're fighting RR1 people with laughably low resists. If you need a backup CC if the bard fails, druid aoe root is tons better. I found twf more of a disadvantage than a bonus and 14 rps is an absurd amount of rps to spend on it.

Thanks a lot for this precious information. That's really what I needed, some people who has/had it and knows how useful/useless it is.

I'll get back to the warden RA's and look for something better.

I am planning to go for the same kinda stuff as u have. MCL, aug acuity 2, serenity 2, AoM, purge. Soon wardens get new RAs like wild healing etc which is nice, but I am sad to see wardens dont get Mastery Of The Art RA :( Warden heals are damn slow to cast, and that RA would be nice, so I guess I'll get aug dex to help a bit.

So in total I think I'll go the following route(considering I am a support warden)

MCL, aug acuity 2, serenity 2, AoM, purge, Wild healing 2, AoM 2, aug dex 2, Mastery of Parry, Mastery of Healing which is R4L5.... after that I dunno yet, probably AoM3 etc

TWF is not worth the 14 points at all, you should get purge next, serenity 2, long wind, MCL2, AoM 1-2, Raging power etc. and take note that Wardens get Wild healing and mastery of healing plus Mastery of blocking in next patch. So saving some points for that would be a good idea aswell

I currently have:

Aug Con II
Aug Dex II
Aug Acui II
Toughness II
Long wind I
Lifter I
Serenity I
Avoidance of Magic III
Mastery of Parry II
MCL II
Raging Power
Purge

and have points saved up for:

Wild Healing II
Mastery of Healing II
Mastery of Blocking II

and i have no clue what i'm gonna save for next :)

TWF is great, but ultimately situational, used it about once a day and once every 2 weeks it decided a battle. And it's such a pain to drop on the fly. (especially with the screwed up first tick)
