You start at what kind of bubble you want.. 6 second or 8 second.. Most opt for 6 second though so that means a minimum of 45 nurture. Then you decide if you want the last damage add (46) or last haste buff (becomes buff in 1.50 I believe, still a chant now though, 47) or the very last resist (49)
After that you need to decide if you want to be a really average support fighter or a really average support healer or if you want to be mediocre at both
If you want a fighter spec high in either blades and blunt combined with parry.. (although parry might not be as effective in RvR as in PvE). You might also want to consider spending some points in regrowth to get the first endurance regen because it becomes a shout next patch so you will be able to regenerate your endurance during a fight. (maybe even spec as high as 16 for the better res)
If you really want to be a support healer you should drop blades/blunt and spec only till the taunt (necessary for pbaoe tactics) and put the rest in regrowth. This path however is highly contraversial since it offers no real benefits because mana drain from bubble is so extensive. People interested in this spec might want to choose 8 sec bubble instead for less mana drain.
And my mediocre at both spec is what I currently have:
46 nurture
39 blades
26 regrowth
8 parry
This offers me a decent heal (277), average damage and the highest damage add (7.5).
Anyway, pick your own route on what you are most comfortable with. You'll never be a formidable fighter though: at most you'll do the damage of an unspeced hero I believe. (with damage add you'll equal a full 1h speced hero though but then your defence is severely lacking (heroes get evade/parry spec/shield spec as opposed to our parry spec))
Don't write off Wardens just yet. In 1.49 we start to get some loving and then in 1.50 and 1.51 we get some really nice changes. At that point Warden is going to be a very effective class, especially with a lot of our group buffs becoming insta cast chants.
Out of interest, last night I ended up 1v1 with Hug, a lvl 50 Skald. With my 6 sec BT running, he couldn't hit me at all with his 2H hammer. When he switched to 1H/shield, I was parrying about 1/3 of his swings with BT taking about 1/3 as well. Eventually it was a combination of me running out of End (at which point he parried and blocked me constantly) and his bloody DD's that won him the fight, although I left him with less than 5% of his HP.
Even in their current state, Wardens can be competitive under the right circumstances. Unfortunately those circumstances hardly ever come up
