Wanted to go to Thidranki, but ended in a duel

After just making the 24'th ding I went to Druim Liegen wondering if I should join the forces in the battlegrounds. Then an equal level heroine came up to me and asked my champion for a duel. Fine I though, wham, slack, bam, three hits and champion down. No hard feelings about that. But then I noticed that the heroine was dyed all in black and was wielding the Flaming Sword of Look-at-me!-I'm-wielding-a-flaming-sword! My self-made champion can't even afford to enchant his armour. So she was obviously an alt for somebody or had been founded plenty by her guild. She was also going to the battleground witch is great and all, but I don’t want to go there if it’s only for alt characters with lots of gold.

So are my suspicions true? Or is it just because she is using Large Weapons she does more than three times the damage I do?

would think 90% of the players in thidranki are alts.

wielding a sword with a flaming particle effect is way too high for a lvl 24 character and therefore gimping their dmg output :)

i suggest you go to Thidranki, its the best time you'll ever have.
You will elarn about RvR combat from the experienced players and have a blast :)

plus you leave thid capped with 4 realm skill points which can be useful for leveling later on.

Flaming swords just make the muppets easier to spot.

On the plus side it was a twinked melee alt and not a stealther...

If she was using a LW and you only using a 1 handed weapon, then yes, she will dish out alot more damage than you, but hit slower than you. As for the glowing sword thing, nearly all of those are of low quality, which affects the damage done and as you rightly said, she was probably an alt of some kind. Think nearly everyone in Thid is an alt, alot of people have a dedicated alt just for playing there, to get away from the zerg (even if it was creeping in when I was last there). Don't let the alt thing put you off though, as a previous poster said, the RA skill points you get can be vital for helping leveling later on, for example, Mystic Crystal Lore, think its 3 RA points for first level giving 30% mana regen every 10-15 minutes, not sure which, absolutely ideal for healers/casters, save them down time, especially if they are soloing.

All right, I’ll try Thidranki later on then. First I have to get the Faerie Drake Hide Shield and collect a lot of cold, so I can buy a bigger blade and enchant my armour. See you in a day or two.

Aye most of bg1 are alts however dont let it put you off , as swords mentioned particle effect weapons are way too high for use at that lvl so the effective damage will be capped , to a lesser extent the same for armour. My LW luri champ was alot of fun and very effective in bg.

Yes I know about using overpowered items. Look at the stats for these two armour pieces I’m wearing right now:

Sapphire cruanach gloves (cons red)
Base Factor: 60
Quality: 96%
Condition: 100%
Effective Armour: 63

And

Carbide cruanach sleeves (cons yellow)
Base Factor: 50
Quality: 98%
Condition: 100%
Effective Armour: 64

The gloves have a much higher base factor than the sleeves, but because they’re too high for my level I don’t get a full use of them. Maybe in a level or two I’ll be glad I bought them, but right now I want to throw a huge pile of dung after the crafter who convinced me to buy the expensive gloves. Just kidding of course.

Kinda the same here, my first time in Thid was using blue con weapons and armour.

To be honest I sucked, any attempt to solo another character failed, was beaten by a minstrel, infiltrator and friar no problems at all.

Since then and thanks to the kind generosity of Hibernia, 5G donations here, 10G donations there... I managed to scrape about 200G together and now have yellow sword/shield and red armour. It makes a Major differance, I can actualy hold my own now.

Anyway aslong as you are part of a group in Thid, it really makes little differance over you're equipment.. the attacks are normaly over within a few seconds. Just get out there and bash some Albs !!! :)

i got to admit Gerrard my second thid character was twinked to the bone...through he did have a full set of AF50 player made armour no red con rubbish.

darktempler my first(which one of you old school might remember)
had a full set of keltoi items...pre nurf smite clerics didn't need twinking :)

my new almost thid character will have a player made armour set again and some nice slashers made...i made him to hurt Sb's :)

Unfortunatly It's always been like that...

I wanted to create a new character the hard way, no help or anything from my mains, no cash, no armour, nothing.

I fought the best mobs, completed every quest, learnt my character inside out and worked damn hard to afford decent armour.

I wen't to Thid and saw the twinks with their glowing weapons and staffs etc but I still managed to kill them all at one time, just as they managed to kill me.

It just takes a little skill and luck. If you do need a little help, PM me here and I'll be able to sort something out for you.

I spent about 500-600g on my last twink merc. Perfect crafted gear & spellcrafting. Yes, I'm a sucker, and loving it.
